Im getting charged E250 to have two bearings replaced by the local mechanic. Also told him that the NCT is due so hes having a look over it for me.
Hows that on the value front?
I havent a clue pricewise for that sort of thing.

It really depends on the car. Some bearings come with a flange attached and can be very expensive but if it's just the bearing, you would probably be looking at about 40/50 euro per bearing plus whatever labour costs are involved.

You will have to ask your mechanic for a more detailed break-down of the cost or get a second opinion if you are unhappy.

its a 10 year old focus.
my sister has a similar car, 8 year old car, and she brought it to a different mechanic, who replaced 1 bearing. It cost her the guts of E100, so im calculating 1 cost E100, 2 would be E200 and that leaves E50 for an NCT check out.
It sounds alright but I might still chance me arm and tell him Im a poor student, get the sympathy vote in.

    Was I ripped off??

The bearings are cheap, in your case though i recon they replaced the whole part.

    Front or rear bearings?!

Exactly. Rear ones in a focus take 30 mins, front ones exponentially more as there is quite a bit of stripping involved.

Sorry for the delay, it was the rear bearing.
In fairness to them, they told me first that two would need replacing, then when I went to pay, they said that really only one needed changing so they did, and the second one should be good for another while yet.
They also NCT checked it and said it should be fine.

    Cost E150 in the end.
