Road Tax Question

So I just bought a car and sent off the change of ownership form.

The car has been off the road since early sept and not reported by the previous owner. How do I go about getting tax without being hit for back tax? Do I just need to get a form somewhere?

Tax is from date of change of ownership, never do it late in the month.

    Wow quick reply.

The form was sent of on Monday. So I'm guessing its calender months not 30 day months? Ah well its only 14 days or so i'm missing out on.

    Thanks

You are only liable for tax from the begining of the month that you became the registered owner.

    Thanks.

So I won't have to do anything about the car being off the road? Awesome.

No the previous owner is liable for that.

So they need to pay for that period?
I'm asking as I know the previous owner.
Can they not just explain it was off the road?

Previous owner doesn't have to explain anything.
If car was off the road, then it didn't need to be taxed.
