square bales v round bales

    I assume the round bales are cheaper.I have always bought square bales of hay and straw for the donkeys but wonder if a round bale might be a bit more affordable.Can anyone enlighten me as to the repective costs?
    Do they come just as hay (haylage?) or can you get straw too?

    you can 4x4 foot round bales of hay, haylage, silage or straw.
    not sure of prices myself, always forget em, but i will generally depend on quality.
    is it large or small square bales you've been using??

    Round bales are cheaper alright, depends on what part of the countr your in, are you from a tillage area or is it transported in, for straw. Haylage is more or less everwhere but quality can vary, alot... At this time of year straw will be out if a shed and so, more expensive, at harvest we sold barley for 13€ per bale. Forget gowing rates around home, but shop around localy and you'll soon find out
