Hi, I have a customer in Galway (Claregalway) with RTE1 &2 aerial and TV3 & TG4 aerial on chimney. 2 cables into unit on mast and 1 cable into power supply in attic. 2 cables from power supply to 2 tvs. 1 tv has snowy tv3 & tg4 and reasonably good RTE1 & 2. Other tv has no TV3 &TG4 and reasonably good Rte1 & 2. Can you shed some light please. I am not an expert. Thanks.

Assuming the aerials are correctly aligned, all connections intact and power supply is powered, is this a new installation or has the reception recently degraded?

If a new install are the cables from the UHF & VHF aerials connected to the correct UHF & VHF input on the mast unit?

If the setup worked OK previously could the power supply or masthead amp be faulty?

What is the make/model of the masthead amp/power supply?

With 2 aerials and snowy TV3 & TG4 I would assume the Maghera transmitter is being used (Chs E, H, 66, 68) to the SE.

    A faulty diplexer?

Where exactly in Claregalway? The main problematic area there is around the community centre behind a big hill on the N18 where I have had to use Castlebar for RTÉ 1 and 2, TV 3 and TG4 can be received from Maghera but need amplification. Elsewhere amplification should not be needed unless feeding mutiple TV sets. I suspect the problem is (1) poor cabling or kinked cable; (2) poor connections at aerials, amp, TV,or PS; (3) misaligned aerials (4) faulty masthead, PS or diplexer.

A Maghera installation is not difficult in this area and you should be getting 70 + dbu on all channels with the possible exception of TG4. RTE1 and TG 4 tend to be a little weaker than RTE 2 and TV3. A meter is needed to trace the fault here.

Tonabrucky DTT is now on channel 26 (moved some time ago from ch. 23) where it was co channel with TG4, so that is having no affect on analogue Castlebar, and would definitely have no affect on any of the Maghera channels.
