Damn. How far away was it. Did you rush the shot.
I was out talking my self this evening.
Before I went out I fired 3 shots at 3 different objects at random distances out to 200 yards.
That left me confident and ready for hunting
The best cure for buck fever is practice and then applying what you learned while practising to your hunting.

He was out grazing in a herd of aprox 14, I stalked within about 180 yards, watched them for 10 minutes waiting for a clear shot as a he was at the far side of the herd from me and there were several does directly in line between me and him. He finally walked forward with only his neck clear of the herd with no deer behind him, fired at his neck side on as he was grazing, missed high. Should have waited for a heart shot..
Going to check the zero on the rifle this evening just to be sure. I'm sure its fine as I shot one on Wednesday evening... its just its the first time I have been within range of such a large fallow buck.
I have shot well this season, missed one (a snap shot on the 1st). Shot this sika stag in the neck at 230 yards a few weeks ago.

Are you sure you missed. It doesn't sound like you rushed the shot by any means. Sounds like you are well seasoned also.
I know how a big buck can put the shivers into you tho.
I'm going to head out to a good spot this evening as I didn't get anything yesterday.

I've been going with the method of not putting too much thought into it. There a deer, safe shot, he's in the crosshairs, BANG !! Trying not put too much thought in it, or tensing up my muscles and getting the shakes ;)
