im just wondering has anyone on here had to deal with IBR on their farm? Had a bulk sample taken and result was very high for IBR around 200 on the test. 3 Cows have aborted in the past month so im wondering whehter i vaccinate for IBR or what? I have heard of cows aborting after they receive the vaccine.. Cows have been vaccinated for lepto and BVD already thought i had everything covered obviously not. Any one been in this situation?

Make efforts to get the abortions and any further ones diagnosed. No point vaccinating for IBR if the cause is Salmonella.

IBR abortion is very rare in this country. Salmonella is rampant this year. No vaccine is fool-proof so lepto could be a problem, though unlikely.

I wonder is that because of the last few wet years we've had. Depletion of minerals like Copper etc.

as greysides said, Salmonella would be first to come to mind oct/nov are prime times for salmonella abortions in the spring calving herd.
a bulk milk sample is only a snap shot of what is happening on a farm at that time. ideally you would want to be doing the antibody test (ibr, bvd, lepto, johnes) on the bulk tank 4 - 6 times a year this will give a good picture as to what is going on. if the test results are rising then there is a issue, if they remain at the same level then it is not as serious.
hope it all goes well for you. had a bout of abortions from salmonella a few years ago, still gives me the shivers
