Ok, shoot me if this is as dumb a question as I think it is but....where is the best place to purchase an iPad for low cost and good service?

GruUpy.com had the base model (16GB WiFi) on sale twice in the past few weeks at €430.. that's €69 off the RRP.

But then said they're unlikely to have it again before Christmas.

You're unlikely to get it below the usual price pretty much anywhere, short of importing it or going up north and paying sterling, which is probably going to cost you as much in terms of travel and hassle as just walking into your local tech store would, unless you're right on the border.

If you want an ipad that you can have local service/return on if you need it, and a proper irish wall socket, then you'll just have to bite the bullet. They don't have to undercut the prices on them. The retailers know it, and apple know it, that's why there are never any deals on them. They will fly off the shelves in the run up to christmas too. I just got one in PC world last weekend. They're normally open to movement on price to make a sale, and the guy wasn't budging, and basically told me it was a "take it or leave it" price.

    I took it.

Please do NOT purchase it from PC World, their Apple/Mac support is abysmal, buy from an Irish store or failing that buy from Harvey Normans, they will do a deal if you bundle other stuff in with the iPad i.e. they will give you a big discount on accessories and other stuff as part of the deal though officially they will not be discounting the iPad.

in fairness it is a take it or leave it price as the margin offered to resellers from apple is so small it isn't worth discounting.

Do Harvey Norman even sell the iPad?

Also, dont worry about support from PC World, if something goes wrong, deal with apple directly.

Harvey Norman don't sell them. I called two weeks back and they recommended pc world to me.

my daughter is looking for an ipad for christmas and having read the thread so far the only place mentioned where it can be purchased is pc world. i'm not a great fan of theirs as i have had problems with them before so can anyone tell me anyplace else in Dublin where i can get one and the price? i'm not really technical on these things so i was wondering if you could shed some light on the main differences between her laptop and an ipad?
