LGBT Films/Music/Art ect....

If I recall, this thread has definately come up before (in fact I wouldn't be surprised if I wrote one myself) so perhaps a mod could sticky it for the future?

Essentially, I was just thinking that this thread could be for people to post some recommendations of some LGBT Art or even look for a theme/genre that they're going for.

For me there's three films that have really helped me with my coming out process and they are a must see for all LGBT people out there.

C.R.A.Z.Y. is by far my favourite LGBT film of all time, and I relate to the main character so much. The religious aspect, the music, the visuals and especially the story just had me relating way too much. The ending always gives me hope too. Another thing I loved about it was the complete lack of gay sex scenes in it, which means that it's a really easy film to watch with straight friends who feel uncomfortable about same.

Prayers for Bobby is a film that I saw last night, and it had me bawling my eyes out. I really liked it because it focuses more on the side of a parent dealing with their child coming out as opposed to the child themself. Totally Recommend it!

Sommersturm is another coming out story that I've always enjoyed, with an aboslutely AMAZING soundtrack. Although I can't realte to it as much as the other too, I'd certainly recommend it.

As for pictures, I've always loved this:

So go ahead, post your pictures, poetry, films... everything relevant. Or perhaps ask for something of a certain genre. Personally, if anyone has any films like the three I've posted I'd love to take a look at them. :)

theyre some great movies (havent seen sommersturm though have heard good things)

Id recommend the movie "Beautiful Thing" ,its a rare positive portrayal of a non stereotypical queer relationship between working class lads.it kind of suffers from the stock tragic/doomed romance/persecution complex which our community seems to so relish but things work out well in the end :)

From a literary point of view ,apart from the occasionally dreary demogary of non fiction like Love in a Dark time theres a surprising amount of interesting Sci Fi out there, any of the sci fi books of Ursula Le Guine are excellent for the way they deal with gender roles and sociological issues of sexuality in the context of another world.

    Beautiful Thing
    Latter Days
    Prayers For Bobby
    Get Real

Lots of queer movies out there, but the above 4 are quite good and probably the most well known. Prayers For Bobby is based on a true story and is actually very sad, like the OP I too found it very sad, although I didn't bawl my eyes out, but I was close to it. Very well acted and interesting that the story is told from the mothers point of view rather than the gay sons.

Oh, and how about "I Love You Phillip Morris"? :D

Does anyone watch RuPaul's Drag Race? It's on E4 on Wednesday nights around midnight. The second series is coming to an end but the third saries starts in the new year. I've only seen clips of it but it looks good, like America's Next Top Model but with more hair, make up and bitchiness. I shall be watching the new series when it starts!

Breakfast on Pluto is one of my favourites. Great Irish film starring Cillian Murphy as Patrick "Kitten" Braden. It's charming and whimsical and quite heartfelt and tragic at times. Would recommend it to anyone for a bit of a cheer-up!

EDIT: Just want to add After Sex and Young People F*cking. They're not strictly speaking LGBT, but they're very honest looks at young relationships, alternative relationships, self-discovery, love, and obviously sex.. and they're very funny! :D

I don't really know if it falls under LGBT (it might sort of fall under trans, but more under intersex) , but Middlesex was amazing.:)

    "A Love to Hide"

    Three Israeli films:

    "Yossi and Jagger"
    "The Bubble"
"Walk on Water" -not really gay but a fabulous film

Eytan Fox is a great director. Ohad Knoller is a fine actor. As for Lior Ashkenazy in "Walk on Water"... There's someone to make you drool.

A great German comedy called "Regular Guys"

"Eyes Wide Open", another Israeli film

    "The String"
    "Just a Question of Love"
    "Plan B"

    and

"Burnt Money" about two real-life gay gangsters. The acting is out of this world. Never have I seen two people - male or female - express love as these two actors do and that's without even touching. They literally are close to tears just talking about one another.

    Oh!

And a really moving Swedish comedy, "Patrik 1.5" The guy playing Patrik is fabulous in every way.:D

There are loads more, but I'll have to check the titles...

    Oh! Oh!

How could I have forgotten Almadovar's 'Law or Desire"? Antonio Banderas is incredible, far better than he ever was after going to Hollywood.

    and

Derek Jarman's "Sebastiane", the most homoerotic film I've ever seen. Not porn, by any stretch of the imagination. Just beautiful, not to mention amazing for the time it was made in.

Boys on Film 5, "Candy Boy", an excellent collection of shorts, the best so far in the series. All very strong.

"Broken Sky" is a silent movie from Mexico where all the acting is done through the eyes. Lovely.
"Raging Sun, Raging Sky" is more mythical but good, if you like that sort of thing.

I really liked "Trick". J.P. Pitoc... OMG

    Enough!!!!!

Shameless plug! (Johnnymcg said he didnt mind)

I'm in a queer punk band called F.E.L.C.H. where were trying to do something different by rocking up the likes of Bonnie Tyler and Kate Bush for LGBT audiences. Weve done two gigs that have been great, one in the Sycamore Club and the other for Partie Monster in Grand Social.

A video that is very much NSFW

    Facebook linky here.

We'll have a few more gigs coming up to christmas but theyre unconfirmed as yet so if youre interested add us on facebook to catch the announcements.
