Solicitor or other career- What would you do?

Hi all, I'm hoping that some of you might give me your opinions on what you would do in my shoes...
I'm currently working in banking and have completed a BA, LLB and all of the FE1s. My goal has always been to work as a solicitor but obviously in the current climate there are very few apprenticeships available and the situation is no better for qualified solicitors. I do enjoy my current job and I'm happy doing it but I'm reluctant to give up on the idea of becoming a solicitor. I will continue to search for a traineeship but I would like to do something else to keep my knowledge and skills up to date and to increase my chances of finding one. Ideally I'd love if I could find something which would be also beneficial in the financial services industry as I want to keep other alternatives open.

I've been considering various options and I have narrowed it down to just a few. My first would be to begin the AITI exams with a view to becoming a registered tax consultant- something which does seem to be advantageous in the legal profession. I have also been looking at the ICSA chartered secretarial qualification and the modules definitely interest me. Eventually I would definitely like to do a masters but I feel that I should be more certain of the area I'd like to study before committing to this.

Sorry for the length of this post and I would be really interested in hearing what anyone (lawyer or otherwise) would do in my position. I'm sure I'm not the only person weighing up all my options with regard to a career in law so hopefully this thread might be beneficial to others too.

    Thanks a million

This type of thread has been done to death. Search first and if you don't find your answer, I'll leave this thread open for a day or two.
