Painting a steelie

I have a nicely spec'd 531 framed racer from the late 80's and want to use it for my daily commute. Having spent some time in a damp garage the paint is a bit pitted and the frame needs a re-spray. The ally will polish up ok. So I'm looking for someone, preferably in the Dublin area who can do a professional re-paint. It's too nice a bike for an industrial spec powder coat, I can get that done anytime.

i believe there have been a few topics similar to this here recently outliining alternatives to powdercoating. perhaps a quick search might serve you better.

Cheers, I'll have a look. In a previous life I was an automotive engineer so have a fairly good idea of what paint systems to use and how to prepare the frame for painting. The problem is finding someone who can do the work.

If your using it for commuting I wouldn't bother painting it again. Leave it as is and it's less likely to get robbed. That's only if you have to leave it on the street of course.

To the average toe-rag its just an old Raleigh with friction shifters, not many would spot it as a pro-bike. Way less chance of that getting nicked than my Planet-X. Also better suited to Dublins rough roads. Need to paint it as I would be worried about corrosion affecting the structural integrity of the frame & forks.
