Depending on how big you want it, you can get decent countertop models for about €20-50 in TK Maxx, but you'll have to check there a few times to find what you want (their stock varies day-by-day). It's where I buy most of my kitchen stuff (find me somewhere else you can buy Le Creuset cast iron pots for less than an arm and a leg!) as it's the same kit for about a third of the price.

Hi I've been googling around and they are bloody expensive to buy. Talking about a grand for the ones you see in a real old style butcher shop. I was wondering whats stopping you from buying a block of timber and doing one yourself or getting a carpenter buddy to sort it? Is the wood treated in anyway to for use with food?

They're expensive new because they're usually sealed end bits of good timber. You basicly want stuff that's not been soaked in creosote or other fun chemicals, has a tight grain, and is seasoned.

tbh, I'd just check out someplace like TK maxx.
