Kings of Leon lead the first acts announced for next summer's Rock am Ring in Germany.

Kings of Leon join the first acts confirmed as Beatsteaks, Volbeat, Mando Diao, and In Flames.

Tickets go on sale on the 29th November priced at 150 euro (approx £128).

Rock am Ring takes place over 3 days from Friday 3rd to Sunday 5th June 2011, and showcases acts from the international live music scene at the Nurburgring in the Eifel mountains.

Wonder will it be 4 days of Music like last year?

The only reason i would travel for this is if Metallica or Avenged Sevenfold get announced for it, dont't have the cash to be going to a festival were I am not mad about the bands playing it =/

Don't think Metallica will be doing regular festivals next year, but I'm fairly sure Avenged Sevenfold will be showing up. They've actually confirmed they'll see Stone Sour more in Europe next summer!

KOL playing? Well that's me not going...
Last year (Well, technically this year) had an amazing lineup that I doubt will be outdone. (Sucks I didn't get to go. :'( )

KOL will sadly be everywhere next summer. Unless you wish to go to Oxegen :)

Horribly enough I won't put it past MCD to get them to headline:eek:

Was sying to gf that luckily the one year I won't go too far afield for festival is the one they'll play a lot:)

I doubt it, was probably just a once off for the anniversary. KOL being announced is a bit strange, not enough to put me off it though, there's usually one headline you've no interest in.

Any idea how long the lower price ticket sale will last?

Great festival, definitely hope to be going back next year.

Awful decision...after three great years at the fest I think I'm gonna be going to a different fest in the summer!

    very disappointed so far :(

    disappointed too :(

after ratm, muse, rammstein, kiss headlining last year, what are the organisers thinking, seriously. There are always the odd indie acts at it but on the smaller stages and def not headlining, ugh I think I'll be looking up what other festivals are worth going to.

Im prob gonna head to Lowlands anyways next year and maybe Download or IOW

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,028 ✭✭✭✭--LOS--

5-7 of august, or graspop is on 24-26 June, loads of better festivals to choose from across europe if RIP isn't living up to the standards this year.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,854 ✭✭✭Beekay

Also is this Volbeats third year in a row? I know they are getting bigger but that's very lazy of RAR/RIP!

Im planning to go to Download next summer but if the line up is bad (which i suspect it will be) i was gonna to head to this. I wouldnt change my remote control to see the KOL and Coldplay. It was a real tempter before the acts were announced :(

The ones that are red you can click on and just get a basic profile of the act, the grey ones have no info page.

Tool haven't played Europe since 2007 and what with all the wine-tasting I can't see them coming.
You've just made an awesome line-up there and then you finish with....could still be good, could? good?!

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators, Social & Fun Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 60,110 Mod ✭✭✭✭Tar.Aldarion

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,028 ✭✭✭✭--LOS--

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,427 ✭✭✭Pierce_1991

Lol, will I be totally out of place at Rock am Ring in that I like Coldplay and Kings of Leon?

No not if they're headlining I'd expect a lot more people that are into that type of genre. The festival is always quite mixed anyway, don't expect the black mass or anything :P

This is my first year going to this and we were thinking of staying in a hotel instead of camping. Does anyone know anywhere good to stay? Preferably cheap and near the festival?

Also, how likely is it that those rumours are true? Tool would be fantastic.
Any chance of Alice in Chains coming? I have no basis for that, I just really want them to.

    yes!
when I went last year, the campsite wasnt opened the first night so I stayed in a little family run hotel in the city centre very near the train station. It was just called 'city hotel' afaik and cost about 20euro, not much more than a hostel and included breakfast. I'd highly recommend this place, you got so much for breakfast and the room was really nice, en suite, tv etc for very cheap. I wouldn't think you'd hvae a problem booking it either since I literally just walked across the road to the tourist office from the train station and got them to ring around. All the hostels were full up, this was the first hotel they rang and was no problem booking it then and there. Was a minute walk from the the tourist office then, very handy for getting the trams out to the festival site. You'd definitely have a lot more comfort there for the sake of paying about 2 euro more per night than a hostel.

Your best bet Ciara is to check out available hotels in the city via hotelbooking.com we went a couple of years ago and got sorted with a savage hotel for very cheap(like 30 euro a night) that was within spitting distance of the tram(that goes from the city to the festival-only takes bout 10 mins) Its a very well run festival and you will enjoy it :)

So the trams run each night after the festival too? Would be nice to be heading back to a bed after the festivities...I kinda reached my limits with camping last summer...a sign of my age I fear:rolleyes:

As far as i remember they do. Not very late but if you leave as the last band is finishing you should be ok-thats what we did and it worked out good. One night we did hang on a bit, missed the last tram and had to walk back into the city. It wasn't too bad though- nout half an hour to where we were sayin i would guess. Btw-some info you probably don't know....when you get there and get your armband thingy-get yourself back to the transport office in the underground part of the train station in the middle of the town and recieve your weekend public transport ticket for .......................FREE :D Yep-its pretty feckin sweet and we only found out by chance :)
