    does anyone remember a company that started to do this years ago as a way to improve farm profits in suckler herds, anyone have any links or know of anyone doing the like.was thinking of trying it with some empty frs and implanting them with hopefully a e/u grade blue crosses.

    must be about 25 odd years ago


    remember seeing them at limerick show, wasn't interested so didn't take too much heed

    I remember that too. I remember the add for it. Was it not Dairygold Ai, in Mallow at the time, now NCBC.

    Correct. It was Munster AI were at it. I tried it on a cow in 1995 and got a 3/4 bred Simental heifer out of a Charolais cow, along with her own 3/4 bred Charolais heifer calf. Tried it the following year and her own calf was born healthy, but while she carried the second calf full term, he was actually the size of an aborted foetus. Never did it again after that. I think the cost back then was £30-ish, when an AI call was £16.50.

    I looked into this last year , off the top of my head I think I got a few numbers from the limousine society for guys that were doing implants. The same ones did all breeds, anyway the cost I was being quoted was just silly (in the region of thousands of euro for top stock down to several hundred for plain stuff).
    Maybe there doing Austerity prices now though!:D
