Set top box downstairs up to TV in a bedroom upstairs

    And a magic eye remote.;)

HDMI cable has to be at least 20 meters long though.

There does not seem to be any of that length easily available.
I see one on ebay of 20m with active extender, thats a form of booster/repeater which seems to be needed on a cable that length.

The electrican ran a 15 meter HDMI cable out to the back room before, when he was rewiring the house for me.

I dont know where he got the cable from, but he had it within 2 hours of me asking for a HDMI cable out to the back living room area.

Cant get a hold of the electrican now,as I think he went bust.:(

Would you run 2 Cat6 cables and convert them to HDMI? The converters aren't cheap but I have had troubles with 20m HDMI cables in the past. There are many companies selling the converters now and the technology is only getting better on STP cables.

    Hope this might help!

Expensive for convertors though, the 20 meter ones with booster might be the job from ebay. Never tried a long cable though.

i would go with amazon if you have the time i've gotten neato cables from them and they're excellent, very pricey here in my experience.

get a copy of home cinema choice and ring a few uk suppliers they will prob ship overnight and still be cheaper!!!

If your really stuck i've got a new 15 metre component cable you can have but being component its video only:(

Is joining 2 HDMIs just as good as 1 long 20 meter HDMI.

No lack or loss in quality/performance with joinging the 2 HDMIs together?

Thanks for the links, might go and get these if joining them will be ok.:)

    I have done it previously
no noticeable signal loss, though im no expert
try it out on floor before you install
    run cables stretched out
leave coupler accessable if possible and wrap insulation tape around coupler to help keep join tight
    its a cheapish solution

Id say it will work alright, i was looking up on this before and it was said the cable at 20 meter lengths and above failed some technical tests but would still work fine with no noticable losses to the viewer.
Its an interesting one anyway. I have a vga socet beside couch connected to one behind tv using cat 5 for pc to tv, i can see a time coming when it will be upgraded to HDMI although thats only about 13 meters here.

N&D Electrical wholesalers have 20 meter HDMI leads, but they are over 80 euro a lead.

Try http://www.bluejeanscable.com/, they seem to know what they are on about. Not in Dublin, but they ship internationally, and from the US takes about 5 working days.

    Bit of success here.

Theres a company here in Dublin called "All Cables"

They will make up any cable that you could ever wish for.

They will make up a HDMI lead of any length,so I have a result now.

Thanks to all for the help.:)

    Just arrived from the USA.

This is some HDMI cable indeed, and it worked out alot cheaper than all the places over here that only had "normal HDMI leads".

    Ripp Off Republic still.

    Pics of flat HDMI cable.:)

Thats great, i think sometimes the long cables fail some tests that can be done on them but they still perform perfect to the eye on screen. But its working well thats the main thing.
