Shell to Sea are not the brightest. Only one block has been given to Shell for free. The rest can be renegotiated. The figure is a guess anyway.

Quote of the week, quote of the fuhken decade IMO.
"[Future historians] will wonder, for example, how an Irish Government could surrender its natural resources to private enterprise, particularly when the deal was brokered by a corrupt former minister, Ray Burke, in a private meeting with oil and gas bosses. They will wonder, too, how millions of euro could be spent on paying gardaí to provide private security for a multinational whose annual profits regularly top €15 billion. And, most of all, they will wonder how a democratic State could desert its own citizens – decent, law-abiding people who never had any truck with trouble – at their gravest hour of need."

    No, it's true.

The joke was letting two of our nations greatest gangsters negotiate the deal.

    1. Only 10% is recoverable on average so this 420 billion is only actually 42 billion. It'll cost Shell many billions to build all the infrastructure. In fact it has taken them 10 years. In what other country in the world does this happen!?

    2. Even with all of these advantages over other countries, low tax etc why is it that there is hardly any oil companies off our coast drilling? It's because compared to most oil producing countries we have feck all resources and its so arduous to actually do anything.

    3. There is pretty much NO infrastructure in Ireland for oil and gas so giving it so some people on the cheap so they build oil pipes and terminals in a good Idea because it increases peoples interest in the area if the infrastructure is already setup.

    4. Whoever comes in first deserves good returns. When there is actually some kind of infrastructure set up for oil and gas then maybe we start getting better deals.

Were in a country blessed with substantial wind and hydro resources, see how much electricity we export? There's no guarantee the FFuchkers will negotiate better deals on our behalf.

It doesnt cost billions to build the infrastructure, just a few million. Although theyll price it as high as they like to write off the tiny 25% (international average 68%) tax rate we imposed on our own gas. And ten years? Theyll happily wait another ten. There is a good supply of gas from the North Sea right now, so it makes no sense to start selling it right now. Its only going to get more expensive. Arab oil countires have capped their gas reserves for the future.

No, they don't deserve anything. We deserve our own gas.

Who cares anyway. Our sovereignty is about to be transferred over to the Reich in a few weeks so they'll do what they please with our property and resources.

I have a plan, hire about 450,000 people, give them snorkels,a calor gas bottle and a crash-course in diving, but a few drills in Lidl and Bob is your goddamn uncle, we're loaded again.

Final bill for Corrib gas field project to hit €2.5bn

And where do we get the expertise to tap our natural resources. We have no national oil company?

The revised cost estimate emerged yesterday as new documents just filed with the Companies Office by Shell Irish subsidiary, Shell E&P Ireland (SEPIL), show that the capital outlay on the project to the end of December reached €1.918bn. - From the Independent

Like I said, they'll price it as they like. Its not as if there is an independant regulator.
We have no national oil company? Neither did Norway. You create one, 80% owned by state and 20% owned by whatever oil company, for example. And the iol company gladly agree. Unless they think the country in question is run by corrupt gombeen men.

No but we have something called the Revenue Commissioners. You can check them out at www.revenue.ie. Now these are the people that check over companies accounts. Companies that must show invoices etc for all costs and are independently audited in any case. Either way , your "few million" comment is absurd. Wages alone last year were 30million plus.

Oh and by the way did you know that that lovely Norweigen oil company that you so adore part owns the Corrib gas field ?

You did when the majority of people voted for a group of people to represent us. It's called democracy. The 4.5million don't get to scrutinise every decision made. You can only do that on voting day.

I don't adore them. They were given something virtually for free, hardly expect them to point to countries such as Bolivia and say ehh you sure you guys don't want a better deal from us?

They own our gas. If we want to use it, we'll have to buy it back from them at whatever price they say. this happens in NO OTHER COUNTRY in the world. If we can't afford it they'll sell it to whoever they want, those are some of the terms under which we gave them our gas.

THEY'LL SELL IT TO US AT INTERNTIONAL MARKET PRICES!!!!!! AHHHHHH THE SAME PRICE AS WE'RE BUYING IT NOW EXCEPT BECAUSE ITS A FIELD OFF OUR COAST WE GET FIRST DIBS. It's called energy security...

Love your logic dude. Why don't I give you a tenner for your house and you can rent it back from me at say €1400 a month. I'm a reasonable man though so I'll be willing to give you a few quid off if its in a crappy area.

Pm me about the transfer of the deeds - I promise you'll get first refusal when I'm viewing the place

I wouldn't be surprised if they give some private company loads of free land off the west coast aswell as €billions in renewable energy grants to build wind turbines, and then we buy the energy back at over the market prices.
