My rule of thumb is 20 dry cows for a good bale if they are in good condition and 15 if i want to put on condition

Ya i'd go along with that, and if the bays are 15 foot approx then 7 or 8 cows per bay (2ft per cow).

If the seat's wet, sit on yer hat, a cool head is better than a wet ar5e.

How long will it take 20 dry cows to eat a bale?

    Thanks

About 7 or 8 hours if they are not hungry. About 3 if they are. Mine going to see a lot of 3 hour feeds this winter:o

So 20 cattle per bale and 7 per bay thats perfect i may have been spoiling them a lil :rolleyes:was afraid of leaving them hungry, maybe i just have whinging cattle !

I'd agree with the 20 per bale too, but I notice a big difference in the feed quality between early and late cut silage. Late cut has way less feeding in it.

Along the the above advice. Probably also worth considering is:
The size of the bale, (a personal bugbear of mine)
    The moisture content,
    Chopped V's unchopped.
