Your TV isn't compatible. A STB will be required to receive the service on that TV.

What he said - seems like your TV doesn't support MPEG4 which is required for the Saorview TV service

Just to elaborate on what the other two lads said correctly. Your TV uses the 10 year old video encoding called MPEG2 which is Freeview. Saorview is using a new MPEG4 video encoding standard so the older does not understand the new encoding. This is only to do with video, no change to audio which is why you've no problem the audio side. Yes solution as The Cush and kerbdog say.

This is what we mean by MPEG2 and MPEG4. Why Saorview decided it? The new video encoding takes up less bandwidth for processing the video so you can fit more channels in sharper picture on same bandwidth.

Unfortunately you bought the TV at a time when RTÉ had just made that decision as had another few countries but such MPEG4 TVs were then not widely on sale. This situation is changing now...MPEG4 is backward compatible so it can understand older MPEG2 signals from UK. UK is moving with Freeview HD to MPEG4 and also terrestrial 2 (DVB-T2) for high definition so maybe consider buying a Freeview HD box or combo box and hopefully one that is saorview certified. TV as like old analogue will be fine and the box will do the missing bit with Saorview for your TV to project the picture to your TV.
