    hi all

looking at this model. Petrol. I do just 10k a yr. What are the pros and cons? what are the pitfalls? what to watch out for? would a 1 yr warranty be a must over buying private?

    many thanks!

basically main question is - the diesels seem to give alot of trouble, and wondering can i expect better with 2.0 petrol

If it's the same engine as the 2.0 tfsi 200bhp (and I think it is) then it's a pretty solid engine. Timing belt every 4 years (can't remember the mileage). The later engines switched to a chain but i'd say the 2006 has the belt. Make sure it's done as the 4 year change was a revision and differs to the service book.

I'd strongly recomment plugging it in and scaning the codes with vagcom and that'll show up any faults present. It'll point out any boost leaks, diverter valve failure etc.

Finally they have a dual mass flywheel like the diesels so check for any rattles at idle and under load. I think they go a lot less than they do in the diesels though especially won a 170 bhp version, the torque will be less.

All this is for the 2.0 tfsi 200bhp as I said but I think it's the same engine.

I'm driving a 2007 2.0TFSI and very happy with it. If its an auto make sure the auto fluid has been changed if is has 60k- if it hasnt walk away, many audi dealers dont even bother doing it.

Petrol will always be a much harder resale than the diesel, so make sure it is well specced - leather, auto, sat nav, disc changer etc

10k isn't much mileage so once you get a good example you should be safe enough. They definitely seem to be better value than the diesels so at least your taking advantage of the poorer residuals now. the 2.4l V6 petrol is an older engine but has a little more power and you wouldn't have to deal with a possible blown turbo.
