My girlfriend and myself filled an application for a tax refund with Red Oak. I received a tax refund, while she get a letter saying she underpaid. She doesn't work for herself so how does something like this occur?. It also mention it won't be collected at this time. How does she pay this back or will they not come looking for it. It only a couple of hundred, but she hasn't got a report back for the other three years yet.

Tell her to get a balancing statement for the previous 3 years. If she has any overpayment during that period, it'll will offset the underpayment.

Revenue will try there best not to have to collect cheques/Direct debits from people with underpayments. They will instead lower her tax credits for the next year/two years depending on how much the underpayment is. That means she will pay slightly nore tax next year.
