Hi i am new to this. I drive a 2003 Nissan Almera. I do a lot of night time/early Morning Driving. the Lights in General seem to be poor in Distance even with the night Breakers installed.
(i did check through this site but some of the links seem to be broken or gone)
Have a Few Qs & want a few Opinions & what u think.

Is it Honestly worth it converting to H.I.D ?

How Much Are The Replacement bulbs (If) they do Go?

I heard about autoleveling, after u hit a pothole they might go off focus..

Any other Nissan Almera Drivers 03 on have them & what do they think.

Tnx i just want more up to date info. before i invest. two much mixed opinions on this.

you have reflector headlights, so in short, No its not worth upgrading. you'll blind oncoming traffic as HID needs at the very minimum projector headlights to focus the light.

I have Nissan Almera 03 Tekna without Abs but with the Electronic climate Control & radio in One.

Your car has a known problem with headlights bulb mountings melting and causing the bulbs to detach or move out of focus and cause poor vision.

A lot of the time Nissan covers this outside of warranty period.

As for hids. You can get them on ebay for under 50 quid and installation is very easy. If your car has gammy headlights, hids won't fix the problem.

Plus you will be more than likely blinding other motorists as many are doing with these self installation cheap kits.
They are coming down in price for the good sets but they still need proper installation/housing.
Seems DIY HID kits are the new car bling for 09/10,poor us who have to face them on the winters eves!

The only ones that annoy me are fitted to cars without projectors

Thats why i said.does any one know a legititimate Place to buy one.
i was not asking about the 2 Euro shop ones.

They can be ok in projectors, but definitely rubbish in reflector headlights because it is not cleanly cut off so it dazzles oncoming traffic, plus you also get a lot of 'dirty' scattered light in the foreground and little in the distance. Result is that the bright light immediately in front of your car compromises your view further ahead, so while everything might look brighter you can't see as far as you could before.

I have them fitted in my 06 Passat (with projectors) and I've never gotten flashed for them yet and they make a massive difference over the stock bulbs (or even the performance ones like nightbreakers etc)

What seems to be the "thing" this winter is idiots who refuse to dip their high-beams when you meet them on the road at night  Lot more annoying and potentially dangerous imo

PIAA and Hella both do good kits, that said I fitted eBay ones to 3 of my cars without issue.

if its the facelift model with projectors, then i see no problem with you fitting them. get as close to OEM as possible, 4300K or 5000k max. ive seen 6000K that were white and some that are blue although the K ratig should be a standard temp ive seen different colour varaitions from China, USA etc

try buy from an Irish shop if you want some warranty, piece of mind and some come back like www.pro-parts.net

The most important thing first is checking if the lights are focussed.

As I said earlier there is a widespread problem with facelift almera headlights. Get them checked/replaced then re-evaluate whether you need hid or whether normally functioning standard lights will do the job

I have a HID conversion in my Almera (2006) No problems, makes night driving alot better. Just be aware that most kits you get, arent just replacement bulbs. It is the whole wired unit you need to replace (basically everything besides for the power box).

Which, in my experience seems to be the majority of cars that these cheap H.I.D kits are fitted to.

Nothing more annoying than some scrote in a shitbox behind you with 8000k H.I.Ds pointed at your rearview mirror.

Happened to me the other evening coming out of Carlow, bluey light coming from all directions from an old civic or something, I flicked up the rear view and angled out my side mirrors for a few mins, that got him to keep some distance fairly quick ;)

I have no problem with these fitted correctly in projector lenses however.

OP, the facelift Almera is known for the headlights tarnishing with age. It's the dims that get worst with age. They usually last about 3 to 4 years. I had the same on a '05 one (totally crap lights with the original light units). I changed the headlights for new Nissan ones and it made a world of difference.

If I were you, I'd be checking the date stamps in the lights and have a look at changing the light units. It cost me €400 for new Nissan ones.

MOtor factor ones won't have the issue that the genuine ones have.

The sooner that aftermarket HID's get kicked to touch and regulated the better IMHO.

I'm so pissed off being blinded by ****wits driving VW Golfs etc.
