Alan Quinlan's autobiography entitled Red Blooded: The Alan Quinlan Story is published on the 18th November by Irish Sports Publishing, and judging from some of the extracts in today's Indo it should be an entertaining read.

Voted Tipp person of the year for 2010 too! Most capped Munster player ever and Man of the Match on numerous occasions Quinny may be a SOB but he's our SOB! :D

    C'MON MUNSTER!

as he is still in the game its hard for him to be critical or objective.

he has a good story to tell from his sucess with shannon and munster to playing for ireland in the 2003 world cup

he comes across terrible on television and radio though. he was on rte's against the head a few times and basically just said how great the munster players are. not that im saying some of them arent but that was the guts of his argument.

i dunno if anyone saw him, paul wallace and matt cooper on area 22 on tv3 last week. he was awful, wallace would saw something like "toner deserves a shot he brings so much to the lineout and has been playing well for leinster" to which quinlan would reply something along the lines of "i know mick we play together for munster he is so experienced" blah blah blah.

i wont be rushing out to buy this one as i fear it's just going to be a munster love in and everyone is great.

    And what's wrong with a Munster Love-in????

Anyway the extracts in the Indo make it look a good read compared to some rugby biographies that I've read. I'll lend you my copy if you like. Oops meant to say that you'll have to prise it from my cold dead fingers first! :D

If his book is anything like his committment then it will be a best seller.

@ CatFromHue, he is not the first rugby player to write biography and probably wont be the last.

Was watching that on TV3 and it was incredible! Load of absolute ****e from Quinnie tbh, are we going to get another Donal Lenihan, Daire O Brien or George Hook or a pundit?!

Legend of a player, one of a kind. Critical to Munster success down through the years and massively under utalised by Ireland. I don't think he gets the credit he deserves. His Rugby brain around rucks and mauls is second to none.

no thats true but he is still playing so he will hold back on alot of things.

for example would bernard jackman have wrote his book last year while cheika was still in charge and wrote about how he felt about how malcolm o kelly was treated regarding his retirement? i really dont think so.

he seems to be very open about going to see a psychologist and thats a good thing but will he be as open about what he really thinks of laurie fisher etc.

My heart bleeds for him. He has always come across as arrogant. Good player but he has rarely engaged his brain before his mouth or fists.

Buy the book and see :D

BTW, maybe the players have a huge respect for Fisher but then if Quinny does say as much people will say that he didn't tell the truth

I disagree that he was under utilised.

The most defining moment in his international career was his try against Argentina in the World Cup in 2003. He was given his chance and took it in a major way with his performance that day but the injury he received when scoring the try killed any chance he had of making the Irish jersey his own.

To say he was under utilised would be to suggest he didn't get a fair chance or wasn't picked. He did get his chance and sheer misfortune cost him dearly. There is an arguement that on the back of that injury, Simon Easterby went on to have the Ireland career that could have been Quinlans and Easterby certainly never let anybody down.

I'm probably a rarity - a non Munster fan who has a lot of time for Quinlan as a player and otherwise. He's cut from the cloth that every club/province needs.

I'd tend to agree with you with the exception of the 6Ns immediately after that WC, I really thought we missed Quinny in the lineouts that season and of course during the last WC he as should a few more have got an opportunity to play.

Quinny will hardly worry about that unless whoever wrapped it for you robbed it instead of paying for it.

Im a Munster fan but ill try be objective.

I read the book, Paul O'Connell wrote the first chapter, from there on in it does one chapter on his life outside rugby and then one chapter on his life inside it. The chapters then become more about rugby towards the end.

He is very honest in his book, he tells the story of seeing Psychologists and also about his depression. The last chapter of the book is about him getting the most caps for Munster (a game i was at so it was great to see what he was thinking walking out the tunnel compared to what we saw as a crowd) he goes on to say about his fears and hopes for the future. He talks about his spats with Declan

Being honest bar his son, the account in the book kind of leaves you with the feeling when he retires out of Rugby that he will be fairly empty. It kind of makes you think about how much they (rugby players) give and when its all over alot is missing...

He donates a couple of pages about his home life with Ruth (his now seperated wife).

All in all its actually a good read. However as with all these books it stops short of him actually providing full details of what goes on behind the dressing room door. One book i loved that did alot of this was the Irish Grand Slam book. I suppose they cant say alot, but as fans it would be great to see.

Typical that guys who don't support Munster weigh in with their ill judged opinions. Why not just butt out? Ok you don't like the guy or admire his talents. Just can't understand why you would post something negative because you're from ...say erm ...Leinster for example:rolleyes:.

how about that, people on a rugby discussions board have different opinions...who'd have thought.

I can't help but feel this book would be miles better and honest if it were to be published after his retirement, we want the truth on what he thinks about his coaches, his fellow players and opposition. I want to know what goes on after a big win, how they celebrate, how he feels rugby has changed and evolved since professionalism etc.

Quinny is one of those players who you want to know about and what makes him tick. I'm a huge fan of the man but if he played for another club I'd probably dislike him. I hope he keeps going for another few years as his age hasn't affected his game.

Fair enough if they read the book , what I see is lazy provincial bias.

Liam Hayes. He is the publisher anyway.

He was also involved with Bernard Jackmans I think.

Great player - shame he got injured back in 2003 as he would have had a great chance to seal his spot on the Irish team and get more caps.
Not a big fan of players who are still involved or only just retired going into commentating as it is very hard for them to be Objective. I can't listen to Frankie Sheehan for example because even it all the evidence suggests otherwise he will not critcise a Munster player. Of the recent ones who commentate Emmet Bryne I think has been the best he is not afraid to criticise a Leinster player if they had done badly and have found has always come across as Objective.

Quinny is a hero of mine for what he has done on the pitch for munster.. I cannot judge the guy for anything else ..... because i dont know him.... but sure pull comments like that from wherever you want.

So its alright for you to think he's a hero because of what he's done on the pitch.

But its not alright for razorblunt to hate him because of some of his on-pitch actions?

And its alright for you to have a derogatory comment about Leo Cullen in your signature after every post you make?

Some double standards there I think!
