Keep an eye on Shaun Griffiths, has the potential to cause many an upset

After looking at Tony O'Shea in the GSOD last night averaging 102 in his game if he reproduces that type of form in Lakeside there's every chance he'll win the title there.

how can a 2 time champion like hankey not be seeded and end up playing scott waites.it will be a pity to lose one of them so early.

He's not played many BDO ranking tourney's this year

Has to be said, really poor field there bar one or two. How that can still be called a world championship is beyond me

On the flip side you have to say that Tony O'Shea, Scott Waites, Ted Hankey (considering he hasn't been playing much BDO at all this year, only masters and lakeside), Daryl Fitton, Martin Phillips and John Henderson have all given decent accounts of themselves so far at the Grand Slam

Some of those players look deserving of a place in the PDC WC, so how can either claim to be the best of the best. Merging is needed, and needed bad

Some players I have not heard of myself but they all qualified on merit. There is one or 2 poor players in the draw but considering that mccloskey, gurney and henderson to name but a few didnt qualify means the players must be doing something right.

You will see poor players in the last 32 of the pdc aswell.

Looking forward to this now.waites and hankey the tie of the round surely.tough start for fitton and adams aswell.

presume there is around 7/8 players considering a move to the pdc after.

And why would you presume that?

True, theres about 4/5 decent players in it would hope they'd move to the PDC . Especially O'Shea looking at the way he's started the grand slam he's looking good. Adams will never join the pdc seems to be anti-pdc as is Hankey. Wouldn't be surprised if fitton and waites did though

I'd be surprised if any BDO players make the move to the PDC next year because I'm sure you have to be in the top 96 in the PDC rankings to be guaranteed a tour card for next year's PDC tournaments or else you have to go through some new system called a PDC qualifying school to qualify to play on the PDC tour.

McCloskey doesn't do the BDO circuit so he couldn't qualify from the BDO rankings. He entered the International play offs but was knocked out in the last 16. When you look at the line up Martin would probably beat a good share of the players taking part in Lakeside this year.

No,Big Hendo failed to make the cut in the rankings and was knocked out by eventual qualifier Shaun Griffiths in the BDO play offs.

The tournament will be on BBC but you can watch every match live on BBC interactive (red button),the main channels won't be covering every game. Tournament starts on January 1st till the 9th.

William O'Connor plays with the PDC so he couldn't qualify for Lakeside.
