Thinking of buying a 2.5 petrol, do you reckon petrol and tax will escape or could the car get a lot more expensive to run come budget day?

Should I wait for the budget before buying?

If you can afford a 10% rise in tax and fuel go for it, wont be any worse than that for December, perhaps another 5% in Junes budget.

Petrol will definitely get hammered but not so much as to make a trip over the border worth while for those of us who live close to Newry, can see car tax going up as well.

If car tax goes up anymore I am going back to a Micra :o .... absolute killer driving a 2.0+ with the tax now.

It makes buying any sort of decent sports car a killer. Tax over 3 litres is currently €1566, with both fuel and tax set to go up come december. Im looking for the past while for a nice v8, but at this stage im going to hold on for at least till after the budget.

there should have been one this june as well but they put it all on the long finger and didn't react and now we're even more ****ed.

Another 5c on petrol and 5-8% on tax I reckon

Likely that Diesel will get more of a hammering than Petrol. According to average prices in both countries, petrol is approx 8 cent cheaper here than the UK, and diesel approx 20 cent cheaper.

not a chance. i see vrt tax and petrol on the rise but diesel to go up more than petrol. a lot of modern cars are on diesel so more excise on that.
i wonder will they hit the old tax band? thus further affecting the used car market.

E-V-E-R-Y-T-H-I-N-G will be more expensive with all taxes going up and you will have less money in your pocket with all income tax going up. And an introduction of NEW taxes like property taxes, water charges etc!
Overall you will be 20% worse off than you are now taking into account all stealth taxes etc!

So I'd wait personally to see how it pans put!

yeah i can just see everyone getting a hit somehow..

On a separate note, is it even worth buying a 2.0 and above anymore now that the private speed camera is rolled out??

Motorists are the easiest target in the world especially for green taxes.

We will be hit without mercy
