Iphone 4 loss of cellular data

Just wondering has anyone had the same problem:

I bought an Iphone 4 from the apple website factory unlocked to use on meteor, the phone worked fine after I manually entered the cellular data settings (vpn, username, ect) as you know meteor dont stock the phone so these arent pre-installed, but then found after just 12 days the phone kept deleting these settings, as there is no save button the fields are meant to save once you exit the menu only to return and the fields were blank leading to a loss in data connection mms ect,

I tried resetting everything to factory settings and was using the latest 0S4.1 to no joy! they sent me out a replacement iphone which I received on wednesday and after 2 days, the new iphone is doing the same thing? they suggested the problem might be with the sim or as meteor dont do the phone? but i argued that the report concluded that a replacement phone was required and they wouldnt have had the meteor sim in their tests.

After nearly an hour on the phone to customer care and after they tried to blame eveyone else, (they even had the cheek to say to me people that buy an iphone dont want a refund, to which I replied I dont but the phone is no good to me if it doesnt work :p) and after being passed on to about 4 or 5 different people I finally got my refund which they give when they receive the phone which is fair enough :p

I really liked the phone so im wondering is it just something to do with meteor? or should I stay away from the iphone 4 altogether? or move to 02 or that and try again? as you can just go into the shop if you have a problem rather than apple sending you a courier taking the broken phone testing it and sending out a new one leaving you without a phone for a week

long ramble I know :p so thanks for any replies

P.S I dont want a galaxy s or anything before people start :P

I had no problems on O2 bar the dropped calls because of the devices' design flaw.

I'm with Vodafone and I'm loosing signal all the time with the iPhone 4 at my workplace. On o2 seems to be ok though, so I really don't know if it's a phone or provider isssue

its not to do with the signal guys, its where you enter the values in network settings such as vpn, username ect they stay for awile then you go back in and the phone has deleted them resulting in the fields being blank turning you iphone turning into an expensive ipod :p

I reckon it is a bug in iOS 4.1. I don't have any problems with connections, but ever since I updated to 4.1 I can't access the apn settings etc to edit them any more. I have been on to Apple Care and they confirmed that it was 4.1 that caused it. I expressed my displeasure to them, and provided feedback on their site about it too. I'll wait for 4.2 to see if that will give me back access to it before deciding what to do next about it. While it's not quite the same thing, I'd say it is linked, I'm not having your problem because I'm with 3, who have their carrier setting tied into it now, whereas Meteor don't have carrier settings to be tied into it for you.

Yeah Iv read on the internet about people saying that it was since the 4.1 update so I think your right it wouldnt matter what network your on as its deleting the values regardless, Iv just had enough at this stage as I got it from apple so wasnt a simple task of poping in to a shop for a replacement couriers taking it back, them testing it, then sending you a new one taking a week each time and as the phone was so new I decided to get my money back but I do hope its only the software and it works for you :D because im gutted having to get rid of it :( now iv to decide what new phone to get all over again :p

If ya want to change the apn, go to unlockit.co.nz on the iPhone

Dont need to as the phone is factory unlocked if you read the previous threads the problem is to do with the phone deleting values not that I am unable to access the apn because as the phone is sim free the apn settings are not carrier tied down thanks though :)

The only reason ya have no carrier file is because meteor don't have on available. Stick in a 3 sim and the carrier will update and hide the apn
That reply was aimed at johnmb anyway. That's the whole point of quoting

I've a similar problem on a 3GS with the WiFi signal. I literally need to be standing next to any modem for it to pick up a signal

You'll need to jailbreak to do this, but it will almost definitely solve your problem! It installs a carrier bundle for meteor. Read first post for instructions and I think page 8 has the bundle for 4.1

Is that directed at me? I have it jailbroken but am on O2. Meteor is not an option through choice

Is it by any chance 4.2 GM? That reportedly has a WiFi issue but is resolved in 4.2 GM2.

If not, it is most likely a hardware issue which can be resolved under warranty

It is jailbroken at 4.1 so bringing it back is not really an option. Might try a restore and see if they works. Been searching on Google but cant find anything

Why isn't it an option? Just do a DFU restore and that removes any trace of the jailbreak
