    Hi Folks,

Had considered posting this in Work & Jobs but thought I might be lucky enough to find an NCT tester in motors.

I'm looking for a job and had a look at the NCT website. I'm very surprised to see that a nationwide operation with dozens of outlets around the country says that it has no vacancies???

You'd think there would be one or two jobs up there... Maybe this is part of our national unemployment problem, foreign companies who land contracts here hiring folks from their base country at much lower labour rates, apparently all legal under some EU directive or another...

More than likely there are just a **** load of people out there with any kind of mechanic experience and a whole pile of garage closures, meaning that there are no jobs in the NCTS because nobody's leaving.

Why does it have to be dem fordiner's?

Still though, at it stands, they say they have no jobs available. I'm sure it's not one of those places that you can just walk into and throw your CV at the first guy you see wearing a shopcoat, so somehow they must have a way of filling vacancies that arise. I heard the pay is sh*t and folks don't stay there for long but a job is a job, it's hard to see how they have no vacancies at all...

Friend of mine works in an nct place and is Irish. Your argument is invalid.
I would say by all means, stick in a cv in local branch.

Have done so and was told to apply through head office or website, hence why I'm posting here. BTW the vast majority of folks working there seem to be foreign workers... I've no beef at all with foreign workers, but I'd expect the jobs to be advertised here in this jurisdiction and anyone who is qualified could apply, Irish or foreign worker, which doesn't seem to be the case to me anyway...

Did you ever consider that a few thousand people have probably sent their CVs in and rather than go to the expense of advertising any openings, they just use the CVs they have?

Did that as well and got a reply back saying no vacancies at this time. I'm just making the point that I'd kind of expect that an organisation that gets to trade here on the basis of winning a public tender, you'd think would have to comply with some kind of open and transparent guidelines when it comes to filling vacancies. It seems to me that where you don't have that, then you leave it to the nod and the wink culture that this country is well known for and is what has us in this economic mess that we are now in...

It is entirely possible that they just have no vacancies available at this time... The run into Christmas is not traditionally a time when people look to change their job, so its not surprising that they dont have anything available. Check back in January and it will probably be a different story.

I've been checking this site for the last 18 months and there hasn't been a single job listed under the "careers" page in that time. That's why I'm posting here, I'm not into conspiracy theories, but it seems odd to me that they don't seem to advertise any jobs.

Even when a vacancy arises in a particular NCT centre, they can fill the spot with someone who wants to transfer to that town from somewhere else in the country or they can check their stock of unsolicited CVs to find a suitable candidate, why would they waste money advertising?

“And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, generates funds to the exchequer. You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

It's all that fresh air supposed to mean something or did you accidently rest your elbow on the return key?

I stuck in a cv the first week of my unemployment and got the rejection letter. Then a week later, 2 jobs were advertised for my local centre. I had my cv posted off to the address the same day the job went up - no word at all back from them:(
