    Phil Taylor will wear glasses at the oche for the first time at this year's Grand Slam of Darts in Wolverhampton. The 15-times world champion will don spectacles for his clash with Michael van Gerwen in the first round on Sunday as he looks to defend his title.
    "I already wear glasses for driving and reading, so it's not a big deal to wear them on the oche," said Taylor, 50.
    "When you get older, some people need false teeth, others need hearing aids and many end up with glasses."
    Taylor plays 21-year-old van Gerwen in Group H of the 32-man tournament, before taking on Wes Newton and two-times BDO World Champion and fellow Stoke-on-Trent native Ted Hankey.

    Despite the change, the 50-year-old says the move will have a positive affect on his game.

    "It makes the board clear again, it's like turning the clock back 20 years, or going swimming with your goggles on for the first time," he added.
    The Grand Slam of Darts is one of only a few tournaments to feature players from both the rival PDC and BDO organisations.

    In 2009, Taylor and Hankey entered as darts' two respective world champions but a cross-promotion clash failed to materialise as Hankey failed to make it through the group stage.

    This year, they are guaranteed to meet as Taylor seeks to win his fourth successive Grand Slam and remain the only man to have won the tournament first staged in 2007.

    Elsewhere, Stoke's Adrian Lewis will face Co Stompe, Scott Waites and Martin Phillips in Group H.


    He really is taking this sly sports 3D too seriously :p

    If he hasn't been able to see proper these last few years and can now with the aid of glasses then the rest of them may as well give up.

    I can just imagine next tournament that Sid's talking over. "Taylaa for the 9 dartaaa....OHHHHH HE'S MISSED, He shuda gone to specsavaaaaaaaaas"
