Anyone end up with the wrong ticket on the Luas?

I'm a regular Luas user. Around a month ago, I slotted 2 euro into a ticket machine at Veolia's Dundrum station, took my ticket and got on the tram. Producing my ticket for inspection later, I discovered I actually had a mastercard receipt, albeit printed on a ticket card. I was fined, appealed without success and paid the 45 euro. While I accept I had the wrong ticket, I feel there should be some onus on Veolia to ensure tickets are issued in a way that's unlikely to confuse or mislead the purchaser, and I'd be curious to know if any other commuters found themselves in the same situation.

Bad luck man. I'd say somebody probably went off with your ticket in the end. Moral of the story is to check your ticket before you board, I guess.

It sounds like you picked up someones receipt before your ticket dropped from the machine. It's a passengers responsibility to check they have the correct ticket before boarding. Put it down to bad luck.

Yeah, I guess so - especially as nobody else seems to have done the same thing! I did see the ticket drop down into the slot, but it came to rest against the inside of the tray so it wasn't visible. I groped around and basically got the wrong one.
