Open fire damper

    Hi All,
We have an open fire and understand the consequences on heat loss with this. Can anyone recommend a product (flue damper like) together with the installation costs? I have a quote for €270 for a chimney damper, but for one hour labour and a piece of metal is this a rip off?

    Regards,
    Paul

Dampers on an open fire chimney is dangerous - could cause a Carbon monoxice build up. Even with a damper, you won't get much better heat out of it. You can buy a nice small stanley stove for €300. It will give fantastic heat and use half the fuel of your open fire.
