Digital Camcorder recommendations

    Hi All

    I am looking to buy a digital recorder for family use. Dont know much about these so any help would be appreciated.
    The wife wanted one to record to DVD's but I suspect these are a bit fiddlley.

    HD or non HD?

    Have used one of these non HD panasonics and its nice and light, good zoom range, records mpeg2 (dvd) format or H.264/AVC, uses SD cards, battery life ok but could be longer

    HD would be better I suppose. Would non DVD recorder be better/more compact?

    dvd ones would be bit bigger, most these days are SD card or Hard disk

    when I said dvd above I just meant the file format was dvd compatible, making it a bit easier if you need to burn the video to dvd
