    Greetings folks..

I was thinking about putting an induction kit into my E46 318Ci, something like this perhaps:

    http://http://cgi.ebay.ie/K-N-57i-Induction-Kit-BMW-3-Series-E46-318i-Ci-98-01-/310230867554?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item483b335e62

Do any of you guys have much experience with these, or think it would be worthwhile?
Or maybe some suggestions of other products..

    Thanks in advance

Your link doesn't work for me

Those kind of induction kits tend to cost you power unless accompanied by a proper cold air feed and some sort of heat shield.

A good panel filter would probably see you with more gains

    Not a hope!

Induction kits are useless on anything but big NA engines,i would avoid fitting one unless you absolutely have too.If you do fit it don't leave the filter sitting exposed in the engine bay, either fit the filter behind the lower bumper or run a cold air feed and heat shield

You will see no gains only sound,on 99% of cars the factory cold air intake is 100% up to the job of taking in enough air for the car,i'm sure BMW spent a lot on R&D.

With heat soak he/she will lose power but gain noise.

before you spend your money get on to some of the owners clubs, some induction kits do gain in HP but only with the right setup. You will probably find a modified OEM intake with a cold air feed and an uprated panel filter is hard to beat, but i know nothing about BMWs tbh so owners clubs is where you will get your best advise.

Personally speaking I run a TopFuel intake with an Apexi filter and a cold air feed on my SiR, there is a definitive difference over stock imo. I also have a modified stock intake with an Apexi drop in also running a cold air feed, the car just seems to rev that bit free`er with the TopFuel, its not much but its noticeable.

Let us know how you get on and what you decide to do

To put it into context on an E46 M3 with the right set up you might gain 5bhp and the car would sound evil,on a 318 you will gain nothing and the car will sound 'different'.

As project says it might rev more freely, that is the best you can hope for but with an uprated panel filter from ITG etc you will get the same effect with less hassle.

I had an induction kit on my old Bora (necessity) it made a good difference and sounded ok but on really wet days i had to plan my journeys and think ahead as the car was sitting low and the cone filter was sitting maybe 3 inches from the ground.

    Cheers for the replies..

As most of you prob guessed, I don't really know much about motors, other than that I have one, but I'm planning on doing a few little mods to make it look and sound like I want.

A friend-of-a-friend mentioned in passing once that an induction kit would help give it a bit more of a purr, rather than a (potentially) boy racer sounding exhaust.
Putting a massive pipe sticking out the back isn't something that interests me anyway.

If I went for the uprated panel filter would I get any change in the sound of the engine?

    Not enough to notice tbh.

If you go out and get a 6 pot like a 325 you'll see an immediate noise change :D

Incidently have a look over www.bmw-driver.net plenty of advice on there.

If your just looking for a bit of a purrr sure go for it just do it right and give it a cold air feed, add a good quality exhaust to make her sound that bit better but avoid big cans, there are some real nice subtle exhausts for BMWs
