This is where private individuals , owners of Certified Passive Houses open their doors to the public . Sadly only there is only one on show this year in Ireland - last years house was located in Donegal .

Of course we can travel to Waterford almost any time to see the first certified Passive House supermarket in the world. Every little helps ;)

I presume that this is the house described on this page: http://www.passivhausprojekte.de/projekte.php?detail=1866

But what are the opening times and directions to the house?

This supermarket is not certified by the PHI, it lacks insulation at walls and floor and blows out over 700 kWh/m2 per year. A value which still has to be matched (!)

They're still researching where all this energy goes....

With such an absurd primary energy consumption of a PH building incl. a heat recovery system worth to be mentioned the building would be boiling hot. But it isn't, it is freezing cold. But check this out your self, it is open (virtually) 24 hours per day. Take a thermometer with you.

It has not passed the existing criterias for a PH certification.

See also the notes on the PHI search page concerning this project.

    No seal.

The page was only updated last week, had they published a seal before?

De-facto there is only 1 certified PH building in Ireland listed in the PH data bank since 2005.

Check out as well the other projects in the data base, it's usually mentioned in the details why they failed the criteria. Only the seal of the PHI on the data sheet guarantees that a building has actually undergone a sucessfull certification process.

    Many tried and failed.

The Supermaket is described on the PH database page - at the coulmns entitled project description as " First Tesco Eco-store in Ireland.
First certified Passive House supermarket in the world. "
    .

There is no PH seal . So some ambiguity exists indeed .

I just came along this old thread and wonder:

Is there still no PHI certifacation process for commercial buildings? Energy usage per € profit? Per client's visit? Per person present, per workplace?

How did the PH supermarket get "certified" then ?

    Brown envelopes?

Is the certifier herself still holding speaches in front of the paying public? How economical viable such a certificate is, resale value etc...?

And how did this (certified!) gigantic energy consumption which were shown already in this supermarket change over the years? Energy was supposed to be stored in the ground under the supermarket to heat the slab in years to come, did it work? How high is the energy consumption now?

Sure some local PH specialist has followed the research ?

I just checked the PHI page again:

    http://www.passivhausprojekte.de/projekte.php?detail=1751

The page was last updated in march 2011 and nothing new added. Or was there?
