    Hello,

I'm about to run out of Impact Whey Protein that I ordered from MyProtein.co.uk a couple of weeks ago, and I was just thinking I may as-well get a better quality whey protein.

I was looking in Optimum, and Gold Standard whey looks good, but it's very expensive: is there a cheaper alternative that may be unbranded and is just as good in another shop or online (such as bulkpowders/myprotein?)

    cheers,

    Kevin.

If your getting the main stream brands its all the same IMO unless of course its concentrate vrs isolate etc.Isolate is a safer bet because concentrate varies too much in quality. To get better quality than that you will have to pay a good bit more.My favorite bang for buck protein is trutein but its not optimal post workout.I use 3 brands of protein and the others are top of its class very expensive stuff.

I recommend unbranded isolate for whey or trutein for just supplementing protein in the day if you want the cheap stuff.

May be better suited to another thread, but could anyone advise what's the cheapest whey protein sold in a bricks-and-mortar shop in Dublin? House is generally empty during delivery hours Mon-Fri, and as far as I know the cheap UK suppliers don't deliver at weekends.

dont mistake better packaging for a better product-myprotein is ISO approved and supplies London irish so its not like its a low end product...... hate them for their price change though

    Nice one, that's very reasonable.

is this protein comparable to Gold Standard Optimum or is there a difference?

iirc it has a little bit more carbs maybe 4 grams more per serving. And not a need to know but prolab was the first company to introduce whey in a 5lb tub :D

the only difference between most of the brands is the flavor and mixibility, they all get the protein from the same source

90+ and usn muscle fuel are cheap enough for 5kg bucket, 50-60 quid incl del from england!!

I got the nutrisport 90+ recently its fairly decent, could be a bit lumpy if mixed in a shaker though (I use a blender most of the time). Little grainy but I'm told that's probably from the casein so wouldn't worry about that. The USN muscle fuel is a pwo/mass gainer afaik, not the same thing although I'm sure it will be very tasty.

anyone recommend a protein drink that tastes nice? I bought one that was mixed berry and it is very hard to drink... but would rather not comprimise taste for protein content...
Otherwise, will have to stick to 'downing' it..:p

Just a word of caution about Carbs.

I used a weight gain powder for about six months. AS directed.

I had a blood test that showed I was "pre diabetic", my glucose levels had shot up.

    Pretty scary sh*t.

So if you load up on carbs just keep an eye on your glucose levels. You dont want to spend the rest of your life injecting yourself with insulin.

Best thing is to stick to the old reliables of strawberry and chocolate. Even vanilla and banana are common but can be dodgy depending on the brand. Mixed berries, cookie and cream, etc is just asking for problems. Otherwise the dearer brands usually taste better so you will have to pay a premium for a really tasty protein.

Fair enough but Is that protein good value ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,900 ✭✭✭✭Mellor

Yeah, unbranded is almost always the best value

Mellor - the company in question might take offence at the term 'unbranded'!:)

Can anyone tell me if Sci-mx Protein ultragen is good? I'm fairly new into this stuff and I've been taking Maximuscle Promax, which from reading around on forums I gather people don't think highly of it. I just like to take it after a gym session, and I'm not looking to build massive amounts of muscle. I have to admit I'm quite intimated about going into a supplement shop as my knowledge base isin't great, which I know sounds a bit stupid :o

My protein is as high quality you can get as much as currently dislike them due to their pricing.

Trutein looks good actually. Similar to reflex peptide fusion which is the daddy as far as I am concerned. where do you get the trutein from???

I dont agree with the statement you make that to get better quality you need to pay more. Doesnt work like that IMO.
