PGDE. Qualifications Assessment. In a bit of a panic...!

    Hi all,

So far, I have gotten some very good info and advice on here, but I'm in a bit of a pickle with this one. I graduated with a BA in Euro Studies in 1999, and my electives were French and Gaeilge. I did the "Irish Studies" option.

However, under the list of recognised degrees on the PAC website, in relation to my degree, it only mentions French,Spanish,German, and History.

So, it would appear I would tick the box from the French side of things. But what of my Gaeilge? I studied both for 4 years, so I am thinking if my French is approved, then in theory, so should my Gaeilge, as both were electives?

Since I graduated, courses such as Language and Cultural Studies came into being in UL, so possibly some of what I studied was incorporated into that degree.

On paper, it would seem that I wouldn't be able to teach Irish, as my elective isn't recognised on the PAC site..

Reason I am checking it here is that it costs about €200 to get it assessed, and I wouldn't like to think it will come to nothing....

    Any opinion?

    Is mise le meas,

    Barry

EDIT: I think I found out what I need to know, thanks.

a follow up to my own thread. It would appear the Gaeilge part of my undergrad is not recognised by the Teaching Council, even though I have an Arts degree in European Studies (Irish and French).

So, what would I have to do to make myself eligible in the future to teach Irish in post primary? Do I have to do a degree in Irish all over again? (even though I have a degree in Irish so to speak....)

You need to ask the Teaching Council. They should be able to tell you how short you are of having the required credits to be qualified for the teaching of Irish. You could do a diploma, or night course. Only they can tell you.

    Thanks Dory.

I'm going to apply to get my Irish assessed to see what the shortfall is....
