Just after the frost thaws and the grass is soft enough to eat, or just after heavy rain as the go under ground when the weather is very bad.

nightime work with the wind /breeze to your face, shoot the rabbits nearest to you ,don't lamp the whole field , when you have got a bit of practise it'll become second nature .too many lads iv'e seen walk into a field with no idea of wind direction and start waving the lamp around like its a light sabre then wonder why everything scarpers
daytime easier shoot the ones nearest to you don't rush over to pick them up once you are sure it's dead stay still, a second or even a third oppertunity may present itself i've shot lots of buck rabbits who came running over to one doing the dying fly ;)

You will get big numbers during the night fir sure. but I find at around lunchtime - 1pm, they are less startled by noise, so a novice can get good practice without scaring off the colony.

    Is that a serious question?

Whats your problem:confused: - the OP asked how hunting rabbits in winter could be made easier, I know people who leave out supplementary feed near warrens during hard weather so as to make hunting easier so I thought it was relevant to the discussion. Isn't a hunting forum all about exchange of knowledge and clarification of issues:confused:

Fair enough - I was thinking about the issue in similiar terms as to attracting foxes for lamping purposes ie. the promise of a free meal;)

I think its a good idea to leave the veggies around for the bunnys to eat so as to keep them in the area and For years now, in one of my permissions which has plenty of foxes and bunnys, I have been leaving the odd bunny I shot in conspicuous spots around the fields in the hope that it would keep the foxes fed and keep them in the area.
No one ever told me to do it, it just made sense (to me !!)
Is it worth doing or is it just a waste of time do ye think?

Certainly not a waste of time - foxes are one of natures expert oppertunists and will hang around an area if a reliable food source is availiable - that why some people like feeding them in urban settings, but lets not go there;)
