Almost 2 years ago I posted the new ver 1.0 Minimum Receiver Requirements from RTÉ and Teracom (Boxer).

Version 2 is now available, it went up yesterday or today.
    SAORVIEW Receiver Approval Process

Ireland has joined with countries within the Nordic region (Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden) to agree a common specification for digital television receivers.

NorDig is the name of the organisation that has agreed these specifications. Download the specification here:

NorDig Unified ver 2.2 equipment requirements
    Minimum Receiver Requirements

RTÉ has appointed Teracom AB to conduct receiver compliance testing for SAORVIEW receivers, both STBs and iDTVs. Those receivers which pass the tests thereby meeting the SAORVIEW specification will be eligible to be licensed to use the “SAORVIEW” logo, which will confirm to consumers that the receiver is SAORVIEW compliant.

Manufacturers/distributors wishing to use the SAORVIEW logo should contact Teracom (irdtest@teracom.se) to arrange testing. When a receiver passes the tests, it will then be eligible to be licensed by RTÉ to carry the SAORVIEW logo.

    Current SAORVIEW approved receivers:
    Walker Technology Products Ltd
Walker WP10DTP & WP11DTP set top box receivers
Walker WPxx (19”-46”) MP4 range of iDTV sets.

Odd. Still insisting on 7MHz Band III

It's late and I'm dopy. What have they changed?

Or is it only the Nordig 2.0 replaced by Nordig 2.2?

i.e. DVB-T2, as per "Freeview HD"?
Version 2.0 was established in 2008 and includes the NorDig HDTV-Addendum; i.e. requirements to
IRDs for M2-Level only and IRDs covering both M2- and M4- levels plus some updates to the older
    specification text.
Version 2.1 includes updates to version 2.0 up to July 2009 and the addition of basic requirements for
NorDig PVR, which were available as an Addendum to NorDig Unified 2.0.
This version 2.2 includes updates to version 2.1 up to July 2010, including requirements for an enhanced
terrestrial front-end (T2) and updates to the PVR requirements. All NorDig IRDs shall now support both
the M2- and the M4-Levels. The T2-front-end is mandatory for IRDs that target NorDig compliant signals
    based on the DVB-T2 specification.

P26 suggest multiple networks & user lists (i.e. Saorview +freeview)

    MHEG5 is still mandatory
The IRD shall include MHEG-5 API version 1.06 with support of HDTV video as specified in the DTG
    specification.

IRD = Setbox (STB) and/or Digital TV builtin Tuner (IDTV)

    Ethernet Mandatory?
See table page 158 ff First two columns ND-Basic STB & IDTV

Not for Basic it appears and is optional in the Saorview spec (Sec 6.4)
    8.3 Two-way Interface

8.3.1 NorDig Basic and NorDig Enhanced
The Two-way Interface is not relevant for the NorDig Basic and NorDig Enhanced profiles, except as a
    front-end for IP-based networks, see section 3.5.

8.3.2 NorDig Interactive and NorDig IP-Interface
The NorDig IRD with the Interactive profile or an IP-based front-end shall support at least one of the
    following interaction channel interfaces:
    1. Ethernet (IEEE 802.3 [47] (100 Base-T, Auto-sense ).
    2. EuroDocsis in accordance with ITU-J.122 [61] (ref IRDs with a cable front-end).
    3. Wireless LAN, Ethernet 802.11 n (1) [46]

T2 is not part of the Irish DTT standard. T2 is optional in the Nordig spec but no requirement for T2 in the Saorview additions and clarifications to NorDig receiver requirements. It's part of the Nordig requirements for Swedish and Finnish DTT operators. If it's ever to used in Ireland the introduction of pay DTT will be the next available opportunity, I don't expect to see it used on the FTA multiplexes.

Section 7.1.7 of the Saorview spec is an interesting one for those receiving overspill reception
7.1.7. Reception of multiple DTT networks

The IRD shall be able to install several (DTT) original networks (with different original network ids).

For multiple original networks (original network ids) the IRD shall first sort the list of all services
from one original network (original network id) according to that LCD, before sorting and listing the
next original network. The first original network is the primary network and any additional received
original networks are referred to as secondary network(s).

The user shall be able to set which original network shall be the primary, either via the user
preferences, e.g. matching country setting (preferred) or via user selectable list of available
original networks or similar mechanism. In order to simplify this, the IRD should map/translate the
original network id into the country name. This means that for IRD where the user has set the
country setting, the primary network shall automatically be the country matching the original
network id (and its services shall be listed first in the IRD service list).

(Automatic) updates within the IRD shall not change within the IRD service list the relative order
between the installed primary network and secondary network(s).

"The primary DTT network shall be listed according to its LCD (version 2 or version 1), then additional
(secondary) network(s) shall be listed, one-by-one, with its services after the primary network’s last listed
services (i.e. not use empty logical numbers within first network). This means that the services from the
additional DTT network(s) will not be listed according to its LCD values. Important is to only include visible
marked services from additional (secondary) networks and not any service that is marked as non-visible. It is
recommended - if possible- to keep the relative order between the listed services within any secondary
    network(s).

If the IRD manufacture chose to have multiple service lists, (one for each original network id or similar),
then the primary network shall be the IRD’s default service list after the installation."

    7.1.8. User Service Lists

The IRD should provide functionality for the viewer to build up additional service lists with the
viewer's own preferred services (like mixed service_type) and own preferred order or manually reorder
the default service list(s). If any network operator makes changes in his part of the service
list, the IRD should place new entries at the corresponding part of the user service list.

well from my perspective and a UK overspill perspective,if dvbt2 equipment is going to be saorview certified or at the very least not saorview un compliant, thats a good thing.

Some changes to the RTÉNL DTT page, an RTÉNL Test Stream .ts file (OutStream_102_mux_3A_baseline_7.ts) and a badly formatted Saorview spec document - not sure what's changed, version number remains the same.

RTÉNL have uploaded a document outlining the Saorview equipment approval process
    Saorview approvals process

    1. Those seeking approval are referred by RTÉNL to Teracom (irdtest@teracom.se) in the first instance.

    2. The OEM or supplier agrees the test fee with Teracom and submits two samples of the device for test.

    3. Teracom conduct tests and issue two test reports, one covering receiver performance (NorDig) the second covering middleware (MHEG) to the manufacturer and RTÉNL for consideration.

    4. RTÉNL reviews the test results and if there are no significant issues approve the device as Saorview compliant. (If the product has issues which need to be addressed; the manufacturer is advised of the issue by Teracom and asked to correct this before re-test of the device).

    5. Once receiver is deemed to be compliant, RTÉNL will issue a draft Saorview Trade Mark Licence Agreement to the manufacturer which must include the make, model number and OEM Chassis reference of the approved product.

    6. The manufacturer agrees to and returns two signed copies of the licence agreement for execution by RTÉNL. One copy returned to the manufacturer and the second resides with RTÉ Legal.

    7. RTÉNL issues a certificate of conformity for the specific model (and not the chassis) and notifies the RTÉ Director of Digital Switchover & RTÉ of the addition of the manufacturer’s product(s) to the list of SaorView approved receivers.

    8. Subsequent OEM certificates of conformity need to be accompanied with an OEM statement confirming that the chassis differs in no way to other chassis types of the same number.

    9. RTÉ/NL posts this addition on the SaorView website.
