    Hurray!!

despite all the doom and gloom things are looking up for me, I've
just been offered a job that I went for recently, after only about 1000cv's (give or take) going out!

So what if its only half what I was on before the recession, I'm back baby!!

Just because I gave you €20 for a quickie at the back of the cinema, it does not mean you have a job. It was a once off as I was just curious.

Great news OP, pat on the back for you! I have a final interview later this week for a job I really, really want. Happy I've made it this far. Fingers crossed! :)

Hi Op, I am very happy for you.

In all fairness, the country is facing serious economic challenges but there are still opportunities out there. I just completed a masters degree and out of the 25 students in the class, 10 have gotten very good jobs, quite surprising really considering that 6 were International students who have since returned home.

Just as a matter of interest, how did you get it? Did you apply online or recruitment agency or just send out CVs blindly or what?

We were hiring for a new position on our team. Looking for someone with Java/web design + decent knowledge of DB/2 & SQL. Went through 5 interviews before we found someone who had even prepared. Offered the 5th candidate the job and he accepted. On the Monday he was due to start, he didn't show up. Turns out he took another job.

So, we start interviewing more people. 3 left before completing the technical competence test. Hell, one of them didn't even answer any of the questions. After 19 unsuitable candidates, we started looking internationally, and found a qualified guy from Thailand in about 2 days. He's due to start in a few weeks when he completes his move to Ireland.

Lesson learned: Irish people don't put in enough effort, and don't have the skills for many of the technical jobs out there. Almost 3/4 of my team are non-nationals (Finnish, Swedish, Danish & Spanish).

So, fair play to the OP for making a good enough effort and learning the right skills needed to get a job. Better than most.

    Congratulations, OP and well done!

    So when do you start?

It's great to read good news for a change.
