Anyone got any tips on pulling fishnet tights off without looking terrible, or do they always look tacky regardless of the rest of the outfit?

I don't wear them because I think they look tacky and hookerish, but that said I have seen some girls pull them off really well and look good in them. They seem to be increasingly worn in the workplace, too. But personally, I don't like them, unless they're of a very fine mesh (i.e. you wouldn't know they were fishnets until you got up close).

I'd definitely be looking at doing a finer mesh anyway, I've seen it done tastefully in magazines, but what looks well on a model doesn't always translate to real life.
I don't think they should be worn in the work place though, really not appropriate.

My own good lady has worn them on occasion with a nice simple blouse, a simple black skirt and elegant shoes/boots.

I think they can be worn to work with a nice knee length skirt and closed toe shoes.
I wouldnt wear them with a short skirt and leather boots as that would look hookerish.

I was thinking more for a night out kinda look, I have a black sequence dress, it doesn't show much up top so would like to spice it up a little!

weird I so don't see them as 'hookerish' at all but maybe that's just my group of mates! I often wear them...Pennys and Dunnes do lovely ones that are a small fishnet/fine mesh and I would wear those regardless of whether I'm going to a rock bar or a fancy bar (with different outfits)

If you are a bit wary of them you could get the ones that are a kinda fishnet and floral lace mix.

You can also have a look at different looks on the following sites for ideas on how to wear tights:

Fishnets look awful on me, I have quite thin legs and I think they make my legs look like they belong to some haggard skinny prostitute, nice! :D

I normally wear solid colour tights, or sparkly ones, or the lace effect ones, with flowers and swirls on them, I think they add so much to an outfit, make it a little bit different. My black ones with silver "glitter" through them are gorgeous, everyone always comments on them, and they are fab for a night out.

Love fishnets and they're currently having a moment. But if you're worried what you may look like try lace instead - how fab is the look below from Gucci's Autumn Catwalk Pics

I got a really nice pair in Penney's yesterday with a seam up the back. I'm going to wear them with a plain black dress and mid heels. Nothing too offensive!

Oh seam at the back as well, gotta check that out, they sounds perfect. I was debating on whether to go the fishnet or the seem tights route!

Totally agree on younger people they look fine as part of a casual look. Fishnets are a staple of the goth/emo look.

Only way to get away with them in work is under trousers imho. if you wear flat pumps, so only visible from ankle down they are fine. Have seen the flesh coloured ones in offices before with skirts. Not sure it's appropriate but depends where you work.

But for a night out I think they're lovely. Just keep skirt length to the knee or just below and off you go. Closed toe shoes or peep toe I think is fine also.

And one other thing - again if you're young enough - is wearing with knee high socks or boots, possibly with ordinary tights underneath. Have seen it look really nice, maybe with a casual jacket. As long as you've the thighs!

The key is not to show all your legs in them I think.
