    hi
i saw some rough weather last year in december
many of the flights in and out of dublin were delayed/cancelled due to heavy snows almost everywhere in europe

can this happen again this year?
i was planning for a holiday around christmas/new year
    but bit worried about weather.

Theres no point in my opinion worrying about the weather.
It's so unpredictable more than 7 days ahead.

My advice is to pick your place and just book it and hope for the best and have good travel insurance.
I'd put the likelihood of a third severe European winter in a row at 50:50
There were quite a few years in the last decade when they had it relatively warm.

Rule of thumb to me is if you go East of Berlin, your likelihood of meeting snow in winter is much higher but their airports are much more capable of handling it.
Moscows airports probably rarely close due to the cold/snow unless in the middle of a very severe blizzard or something.
When it stops, they have the runways cleared in jig time.
West of Berlin, they're not as good at coping because they don't see it as often.
