Having some problems with the heating in the house, none of the downstairs heaters are working and only 2 in the upstairs are working. The heating system is oil and is run from a stanley oil cooker.

Im useless at heating systems so if anyone has any ideas?

and also I opened this valve, might be a drain valve and now it is dripping, how do I stop it?

The black nozzle and the pipe going straight down just opens at the end

that looks like a safety valve to me, if you've opened it and its leaking then it needs replaced. in the short term u could put a pushfit stop end on it to stop it leaking but this isn't recommended for more than a few days as a safety valve is there as a safety device.

Did ya vent the rads? As sparkpea has said don't block that safety valve for long or at all if possible. Get it replaced. MAybe try flicking it a couple of times and it will seal itself.

    Sounds like a pump issue.

I suspect that your hot water cylinder is still getting hot from the stove via gravity. The couple of rads upstairs are probably working on gravity as well...
There should be a pipe stat that switches on a circulation pump to push water round the rads.

Check the stat and the that the pump is spinning ( carefully open large screw on front of pump, Water shpuld come out and if you place a screw driver in side you should feel the pump turning,,,, it may be air locked or jammed.

As stated earlier do not block the Pressure relief valve outlet.
As a quick fix (semi perminent) you can buy anther PRV and a couple of fittings and connect it in line (series) with the other on. This saves draining the system.
