It says right there that it's more damaging overall than heroin because it's used more. I'm so glad that someone proved this fact because I'm sure none of us could've guessed.

Personally, I don't drink, for religious reasons and also personal reasons. I often prepare none-alcoholic punch are parties and fancy ''cock-tail'' drinks from combining different juices and soda's. Alot of ppl in my community don't drink and during these occasions no one seems to care about drinking. People have a great time without alcohol. I don't know, I just feel that drinking is one of those things that people really shouldnt do...but they do. I mean I have seen horrible things happen to people who over drink; make fools of themselves, ruin good nights, become aggresive...I just dont get why people do it! I suppose many people are also very casual drinkers. I dont think its good to drink even once a week, i think once or twice a month should be enough! Just my opinion. Not preaching.

Who's feeling "smug" in the first place?
And the explanation behind the statement means something quite different - alcohol being more dangerous to society than heroin does not mean alcohol is more dangerous than heroin. And as said, it's not like people don't already know that. How much is that doctor getting paid for that research? I could have done it - I want that money.

My god and there i was walking through O'Connell street the other day, frowning upon the many junkies i saw. When really their the smart ones shooting up to a better tomorrow, while every pint i drink is just another nail in the coffin. I don't know about you lot but it looks like its better to be strung out than an alcoholic.

Acceptability is another thing. Because alcohol is seen as fine for the most part it can fester in peoples' lives for a long time before anyone takes notice of it. With heroin you're a scumbag as soon as ya touch it in many peoples' eyes.

Studies like these rely on epidemiological data, and on that basis its probably correct. However, in a labratory study heroin would definitely be more dangerous.

Mention boards the next time you're getting a ten bag. You might meet some former members. They'll tell you that regular heroin use is fine as long as you get the good stuff.

Disclaimer: You shouldn't really mention boards when buying heroin. In fact, you shouldn't buy heroin at all. It'll kill you despite what the dealers tell you.

You're right on the society angle. On the actual toxicity of the substances, heroin trumps alcohol easily.
