    An Open Letter to the Irish People;

I’m writing this to put forward an idea to help us, the ordinary citizens, to push for the change we need in government, to help us get through this crisis, and to help our credibility as a country, both externally, and more importantly, to ourselves.

We want, and need an election!

We need an election to feel as though we have some input into the handling of this crisis that faces us. But we also need an election to clear the air!
We all know the hardship that people are battling every day, and that it will get worse very soon!

But I don’t think it’s good enough for a By-Election, or Opposition pressure, or even a Backbench revolt at Budget time to cause an election.
WE MUST FORCE THE ELECTION OURSELVES!
I am positive this would change the political landscape forever. As those who would put themselves up for election would then feel the insecurity in their jobs that we feel! If we force an election, the political elite would also feel the power of the ordinary people for the first time!
It has to be us that rips this election, kicking and screaming from those that would hang onto power, at all costs.
Also, if we force an election, those that would get into power after OUR ELECTION, would also feel the backing of the people to move for real change in our country, and its future!
How can we force an election though? We don’t seem to like to protest in the usual way, and that’s fine. We’re not French, we’re IRISH. We should only protest in OUR way!
So what if we do something different? What if, we all just meet up for an hour, one hour, say next Sunday? Just one hour, all of us, for our future and the future of our children! If we all meet up, and stand in silence, just like the Munster fans do. Stand in Silence, no screaming, no slogans, no running around streets, and no hi-jacking by minorities! just meet up, and stand there.
Let us be counted, both metaphorically, and literally.
Imagine it, Standing in Silence, thousands upon thousands of us, just standing there, quietly. But as individuals or families only. Not as groups or organisations, just us, the ordinary population, families, friends, brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, boyfriends and girlfriends, rich and poor, from every village, town, and city.

    THE SILENCE WOULD BE DEAFENING!

That would give us our election! And also light a fire under the arses of the politicians!
They would feel our utter disgust at the way they have allowed this once proud nation fall from grace.
One million people went there for the Pope in 1979! Why don’t we go there again, now? For the future of our beautiful little country, and her children!
We are a very creative and hardworking people, and WE WILL get ourselves out of this.

Remember, this is the best little country in the world, we’ve just lost our way a bit, but we’ll get back up, Together!!

    Signed,

    A Common Man.

I agree with the sentiment, but right now the last thing we need is an election. Give it a few more months. We would do ourselves absolutely no favours if we forced an election now...
