TRADING AS

For the discretion of my customers I will be needing to use a term such as "Trading as Suey71" or "Suey71 Trading" (Not actual name) on the packages that will be ordered from my new online store.

But do I have to register the term as above mentioned, as a business name, or should I just put the term "Suey71 Trading" on the package?

Where do I stand legally putting the name "Suey71 Trading" on the packages when the real business name of the website is something else?

    Thanks.

you can put what you like on the package, the only need to register a trading company is to do with the payment you recieve and how they will appear on your customers bills.

im going out on a limb here and I dont mean to offend but if your website is "sex.dolls.com" and its your business name too then for payments you will need to make payment through a trading company such as "suey71" for added discretion to your customers.

Thanks for the quick reply Gerry.

My next question was going to be about discretion when billing my customers.

I'm a sole trader so where do I stand with the Trading Company option?
Do I need to be registered as a company before I can use a Trading as name on the customers bill?

I don't really want to register as a company just yet.

    Thanks again.

Suey why dont you just register a Ltd company, and then register a trading name so its The Suey Group Ltd , trading as whatever.com. More costly with the LTD but your billing can then be from the nicely named company.

edit: sorry saw your last comment there, as fas as I know what Ive said above is the only way you can do it if you want to have more then one name. However you could use your own name I believe. For example if you are a sole trader isnt your business called Suey trading as whatever.com? So on your billing why not just put your own name on it?

If you register a business you can trade as it - whichever one your like.

So A.N. Other t/a Bingo Enterprises

BUT - if you invoice someone - the banks get very sticky - you could have your account in the name of "A.N. Other" and a customer cheque made out to "Bingo Enterprises" - they wont let you cash it on the first account.

    Just something to consider.

(specify the name you want the cheque made out to perhaps on the invoice)

Just register the business name "Suey71 Trading." You can register as many business names as you like (€20 each if you do it online), you don't need to start a company.

    Thanks for the replies.

I don't want to form a company atm.

I want to see how the business fares out in the first few months and then look at the company option.

I'll look into registering the business name that I'll use on the billing form.

Thanks again to all of you.

If you are a sole trader and trade under a name that is not your own true name then you must register a business name with the Companies Registration Office. eg. Joe Bloggs trading as South East Carpets then you would have to register Sout East Carpets as a business name As previously mentioned you dont need to register a limited company.
