anyone know of the insurance companies that would quote me for this car? Also is it the case that if I buy a car and the tax is out, I am not liable for the period of unpaid tax before the car was in my ownership?

You only pay tax from date you bought it/put it on the road so it doesnt matter if it hasnt been taxd for the last year.
    Insurance? What age are you?

No, your not liable, only liable from the date purchased

You're liable for the tax from the 1st day of the month you bought it. If you're looking at an M3, then it might actually be worth your while considering what day of the month that it is put in your name.

Or you can keep it off the road til the start of the next month if you buy it late in the month. You need form signed by garda though if you wanted to do that.

For an M3 it's worth picking up the phone and making calls. For something like an M3 you'll definitely need to shop around to see who is insuring that risk right now and you'll definitely get more quotes over the phone than you will get using the online ones. Last time I quoted one I got a decent quote (not much more than my GTi) from Allianz over the phone but that's over a year ago now.

Id say youll have more luck with brokers when trying to insure a car like that at your age and experience. Find a broker who deals with Setanta; they are not nearly as blinkered as the other insurance companies.

Youre going to have to make a lot of calls tho; just go thru the phone book and call everyone you can.

If all else fails there is always XS Direct :D

    www.123.ie

9 odd for me, 29 full NCB.

    through travellers.

weird fact is, it would be cheaper for me to insure an E60 M5, about 75e cheaper for some reason!

Was 900 for me too through Travelers. They don't do direct quotes try First Ireland for them. 2 years NCB pretty small for one though. Amazing car.

What are you currently driving as this will have some impact on the quotes you get.

    How will it?

Simply because if you have a history of insuring high powered cars it reflects the cost of insurance. Had a very interesting conversation with my last insurance company about this. Think about it you drive a ford fiesta and you try insure an M3 then you are in a worse position than someone trying to insure an M3 and they have driven cars like it for the last few years.

I've been checking quotes today from various companies and not one asked me about my previously insured cars?

It will certainly be the difference in many cases between being given a proper quote or a f off quote. Certainly if getting a quote from your current insurer.

From your current insurer maybe but I have never been asked what I am currently driving when getting a quote on a new car from a new insurer.

Try tqd.ie - I've used them since I started driving.

I'm paying 1,400 on my m3 (2006) right now. It was 1k the year before but went up because of a 12k claim I made against it. Am 26 with 4 years NCB (had step back protection so only lost 1 year with the claim).

    Get fully comp
Get NCB protection/step back if you can afford it.

regarding history of high powered cars.. Just got a quote for a cl55 I'm looking to buy and the insurance was 77 quid extra for 6 months to my renewal date (3.2 litre 343 BHP ---> 5.5 litre 500BHP) :D
