Hi can someone please help. My husband *got through to the next stage in a government job application (he done the appetite test) they are now asking him to complete another form it's asking for all your pervious and current employers and says that they will contact them. The problem is he is two years in a private sector job and he didn't tell them that he was goin to this public service job. Should he tell them now and can they fire him for applying for another job.*

    This happens a lot.

I usually put my current employer on the list and ASK that the body I am applying for NOT contact them.
Once, I did ask my current employer if they would be a reference for me. It does depend on your relationship with them though and not advisable in most cases.
    Most organisations would understand this.
