As the title reads, my xbox broke.

Just as I was preparing myself for a rediculous session later of Black Ops.

Not really sure what happened. Was playing last night, not a bother.
When I went to knock it on today it said "open tray" - the disc was already in it. It happened me before but it always got back on after I restarted it. Not this time. I tried standing it up to see if it could read the disc that way but again, no joy.

I wouldn't mind but the xbox is only about 6-7 months old. Figured the elite would last the longest, guess not :(

Do ya reckon xbox would cover that in their warranty like they would the Red Ring? Obviously I dont have the receipt anymore :(

    FML.

P.S: Just to add insult to injury, my laptop packed up too.

Well you'd expect it to last more than 7 months!

Don't settle for anything less than a replacement !

I had an Xbox Arcade before this that lasted something like 3 years before getting the red ring... Not happy at all to say the least.

Thanks for the link man. I tried playing Call of Duty 4 and got no result, then tried a DVD to an avail :(

    Get a PS3.

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 11,139 Mod ✭✭✭✭Mr. Manager

That wont solve my problem at all.

2 of my friends had their PS3 break in the last 6 weeks or so. They treated their console the same as I did.

Only difference is, my Xbox is covered under warranty

And it should be.. for a year at the very least . I've read stories of getting replacements for ps3s and 360s even when their out of warrenty. 1 year is not the intended lifecycle for these machines right?

Not having a reciept is there killer here imo.

    *clears throat*
    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHHAHHAHH
    AHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH
    AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAA
    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHA
    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH.

Now this will probably give me bad luck but oh well.. Should of bought a ps3.

    *awaits flaming :o *

But on a serious note. Hard luck man :/

Right , is the place where you bought your 360 the usual place where you get your games ?
Do they know you , even though you dont have the receipt if you are known there , they will check you xbox , they can also tell that its within the year and hopefully will replace it.
No harm in trying , next time always keep the receipt somewhere safe. Since i bought the new 360 last week its my 10th xbox , and only ever bought 2 , the receipt is like gold :)

    Good luck

this happens me all the time and i usually take all the wires out put them back in tightly and plug out and in again and it usually works then,if not repeat the process i dont think it's a terminal problem to be honest

Mine hasn't moved since the day I bought it. That's what's bothering me so much.

Same with my 2 friends. Treated them like it was their own child!

Nah I picked it up from xtra-vision. Only have the 2 games for the xbox :o so I'm no regular round there... I've since bought a file to store all my receipts. Not having this happen again!

Did you buy the xbox with cash or credit/laser card?

If it was the latter, you can get your statements from 6/7 months ago from bank....

This happened to my xbox twice. Found a solution in a comment on a youtube video.

What I did was, took game out, placed a cushion on my couch, held xbox 6 inches above cushion (button side down) and dropped it 4-5 times.

It worked! Apparently the laser reader had been knocked out of alignement. This just knocks it back into place. Hasn't done it since, xbox is 3 yrs old.

    Apparently cash is not king...

As good as that sounds I'm going to not try it

I've heard of this aswell to be honest. There's fairly specific instructions on which sideto drop it on etc. Worth a shot first as you'll be without your xbox for at least 3 weeks while its away being repaired.

Same thing happened to me a year ago. Try the following link. I know its temporary but believe me it works. I havn't had a problem since. Make sure the xbox is on its side. At least you'll get to play black ops.:)

The same happened my xbox a couple of months ago.Quite easy to fix,all that was wrong was the laser thing is on rails and it had moved so it wasent reading the disc.I opened up the xbox(lots of you tube videos) and moved the laser back.Sorted.Only problem is it will void any warrenty you have.

Cheers for all the replies. I'm not going to bang or "tap" my xbox in the hope that it fixes itself. It's being sent back to xbox for a replacement.

Will be getting a temp xbox from a friend to tie me over so I'm not missing out on Black Ops.
