    hey all

got myself a nice breitling in barbados 12 months ago. it has a leather strap. just wondering how often are you supposed to service them ? and where do people go to get replacements straps? online or to the over priced irish jeweller?

Most manufacturers recommend servicing every 3 years. Some people seem to think 5 years is about right. Others just wait until there's a problem. I've heard of watches running for 20+ years without a single service. Myself, I tend to wait for a watch to start running fast or slow before I get it looked at.
As for straps, don't bother with the rip-off Breitling straps (€300 for a strip of leather ) and get good quality Hirsch straps from a jeweller (usually around €50 or so). you can swap the Breitling buckle onto the strap and nobody will be any the wiser.
