As far as I am aware the UAE embassy for Ireland is in the UK! I contacted the Dept. of foreign affairs and ireland being ireland I got an answering machine. I need to get this done as quick as possible! Any advice on the best plan of action?
    Thanks.

Ive always got an answer on one of these numbers by Dept of Foreign Affairs
    Tel. (01) 408 2174
    (01) 408 2322
    (01) 408 2061
    (01) 408 2576

It might be different but I recently got my degree apostilled for South Korea. I just called up to the offices on Stephens Green and they apostilled it with a stamp. Took around 20 mins and was 20 euro. You can also post stuff to them but would take a few days.

    Thanks a mill,

Im going to be teaching English in a private school in Dubai. I got the job through www.teachanywhere.com! I have to say they have been very helpful in everything they have done, providing inteview tips, answering my queries, negotiating with the school and so on! Ben Gilbert is the recruitment guy i've been dealing with. Pay depends on your qualifications and experience, you can expect anything between 7000-10000 dirhams a month www.xe.com for currency conversion and pay is tax free (important to remember). The job includes accomodation (including water and electrical bills), return flights, visa and medical card all paid for by the school.

The process hasn't been too difficult really. You want to have copies of your qualifications (transcripts and results), references, copy of passport, passport picture, police clearance certificate, letters of reference etc...in digital versions so you can email them to and fro as required!

I was told to try applying directly to schools but nearly got caught out by a scam advert which linked to a fake uae immigration office website for visa..if they look for any money off you ignore it its a scam. The only expense you should have is getting your qualifications atttested/certified (which i am doing tommorrow)

    Hope thats some help!

Thanks a million, thats mighty info!!

Are you on a 2 year contract?? i hear it's tough to get a 1 yr contract where they'll still cover your costs!!

Yes im on a two year contract, I have seen and been offered one year contracts offering the same package. However these schools are often in isolated areas. I was offered a one year contract through Sabis international but upon speaking to friends out theer and who have been there I was advised that the location was quiet isolated.

The contract is not a major thing to get out of..there is a three month probationary period where if for any reason i dont like it I can give 7 days notice and leave and likewise if they dont like me i can be let go and still my return flights are paid for..after that I can leave anytime and basically break the contract if i wish..but it means i wont get the gratuity payment for completion of my contract and i'd have to pay for my own flights home and sometimes a 6 month ban from working in Dubai and obviously my visa would be revoked as the school is sponsoring this.

I dont plan on doing this as I cant see the situation gettting any better in Ireland in the near future. Also forgot to mention that the contract has paid summer holidays too so you can come home to Ireland or travel further during the summer holidays!

    Thanks a mill,
hi! im also going teaching in the middle east next january. Lik someone said before i also use teachanywhere.com they were able to give me info on the middle east and interview tips etc. they sent my cv forward to schools they had visited and worked with previously so they knew the "inside story". I couldn't recommend them highly enough!! Also if your not sure if teaching in the middle east is for you, you can browse the website and look up adverts in various schools across the middle east and if something you are particularly interested in comes up, you can send teach anywhere an email and find out more info. im only on 7000dirham a month which is about €300 (i think).Primary teachers over there only teach English, maths and science the other subjects are covered by specialist qualified teachers or an Arabic teacher. Also there is plenty of demand for English grinds after school. My flights and accomodation (with gym and pool!) are paid for and apparently if the school doesnt offer that you need to be suspicious!

I had to do this in the U.S. and to get my degree apostille / legalized I had to go through a bunch of steps. I got my docs rejected and finally just used an apostille service. I basically sent my degree to Apostille Pros and they got it legalized in about a week.

My sister is in Dubai as well, teaching though. She tried to send her degree back to us to have it apostille or attested. We just end up sending it to this company called Apostille Pros - www.apostillepros.com

They had the documents attested and shipped it Dubai. Everything was accepted. She's an American though and she graduated in the U.S. I'm planning to visit her soon, hopefully to check out that new amusement park.

I'm also off to Dubai towards the end of August teaching KG2!! I'm up near the Dubai/ Sharjah border, loads of schools up there! :) My school did not ask for the UAE embassy to sign it, but as explained above already I did that too. . I sent off photocopies of my degree that were signed by a solicitor to show they were legit to the Foreign Affairs office and got them back about a week and half after sending from the Cork branch. Just had to sent everything off by courier then. . simple as! :)
