    Ok guys,

Its that time of the year again for me, my insurance is up at the end of Nov so going to start shopping around this week?

Has anyone been shopping around lately? If so..
    • Has anyone been pleasantly surprised by their premium?
    • Any company giving good premiums?
    • Other usggestions of companies/brokers to try?

I know insurance has gone up so I doubt my quote will be lower than last year, but it would be nice to get it to something close.

    Tox

123.ie put mine up by €60 but it was still the most competitive.

36, Full NCB, Ford Mondeo TDCI 140, €580 FC, bit of a sickener but hey.

Check out 25plus.ie - pretty good imo.

First ireland by far and away cheapest quote for me (Chartis insurance I think). Stayed with Axa in the end after a bit of a fight over the price.

I just did an online quote with Chill.ie.. over €200 more than my current policy.. ouch!!!

    Details: 35, 01 reg A6 1.8T, 2 penalty points, Full NCB

I was paying €420 last year.. paying over €630 is a bit too much to swallow.. ugh!!

    Will keep looking..

I shop around every year, but unfortunately didn't get a better price this year - despite my premium going up about 10%.

Oh I expect it to go up by a few percent, but some of the quotes are bloody crazy..

Weird:confused: They were the cheapest by 3 or 400 euro for me last year - my renewal is up in a month or two, hopefully my premium won't go arse-ways like that!

Yeah it was a bit of a shock to be honest.. the guy I spoke to used every excuse under the sun..

My car was hit a few months back, I wasn't in the car, had no hand in the accident, claimed on the other parties insurance so he said that put it up.. I didn't claim off my insurance, how can that affect my policy?

He then said it was because my OH has an EU license not an Irish one, again bullsh*t as she has been on my policy for a number of years..

Then he tried the one about my address being a high risk area, again, complete sh*t as my last policy was from this address and its in a private car park with security gates, CCTV and 24 hour security..

I dunno what planet these guys live on sometimes..

Just got mine from Tesco and it was over €150 less then Aviva.

Aviva came out cheapest for me this year. €100 less than tesco after tesco switched underwriters.

Do you know who the underwriters for Tesco are?

    Royal Sun Alliance (afair)

I was paying 620 for TPFT - 28 yr old Full licence, 3 years NCB, 2 penalty points, 1995 1.6 Carina E. Renewal came - they wanted 635. I shopped around, Glennon's insurance offered 480 for fully comp with full NCB protection. At first FBD refused to even believe that it was possible to get full NCB protection as a new customer. After loads of going back and forth between them FBD dropped to 400 for TPFT with no claims bonus protection unlimited to 1 claim and up to 40k for a 2nd claim within 3 years. Unbelievable, 235 quid off the first quote. ALWAYS tell your insurer you are leaving when renewal time comes. You can always back down later and the savings can be enourmous

Just out of curiosity, I tried Quoteme.ie - they were a hell of a lot cheaper than Axa, who I had been with for ages. Try them & see how you get on. I'm 36, but had no NCB in my own name, only named drivers exp for the last 3 years. Still only charged me €270 for a Pug 306 1.4. Check them & see what you get.

Nononsense.ie were the cheapest for me by 60-100%

22, 2Yr's NCB, Full Licence, Hyundai Coupe 1.6. Fully Comp for €700

My renewal with Quinn was well over a grand for TPFT!!

Nononsense.ie do seem to give a decent quote but then you add on stuff you want like windscreen cover, breakdown assistance, no claims protection, driving other cars and it rockets from €463 to over €750..

These are standard on my current policy..

I think its looking like the mistakes these guys made losing their little stashes of cash due to poor investments are now being passed onto the customer to make up the shortfall.. typical
