Gearstick lacking spring...?

    Hi all...
went to see a used car i hope to buy...a mitsubishi carisma 2002 1.3 saloon. Has 1 year's nct, looks and drives well...except..

well, i noticed, when it was in neutral....you know how there is always a bit of spring either side to keep the gear stick central when in neutral? I thought there was alot less of that spring, or resistance, on one side...the right, or upper gears. Makes sense?

Does this mean anything or is it just one of those things? It s not like the earstick is loose, and it slips through gears fine on the test drive...just noticed it when parked up. A little bit free -er on the right than left..

Hope this makes sense, hope someone can advise..

    Thanks..

My Focus does the same. Took me a day to get used to it as I found it a bit harder to find 3rd. Probably just a slack spring in the selector mechanism.

Think it's anything serious? She drives great, has a years nct...and personally, i founf mitsubishi a great quality car..this one is a clean example.
Now, i didnt get a mechanic to check it out...seems sweet though. I have a lancer with the same engine now, a 1.3, and it was so reliable that i decided on a newer one, this time in a carisma..

    anyone's feedback would be appreciated
