Hope some of you can shed some light on this for me. I have a 2003 ford mondeo with a 1.8l petrol engine. Never had any problem with it but it wouldn't start today, it would turn over but not start. There is now a kind of a tapping noise when it turns over too.
It's been taking longer to start over the last six months but always started until this afternoon. It was a bit low in petrol and so put 5 litres i had in the shed into it but no joy.
Its been a great car to me but i have not been good to it. It hasnt been serviced in about 30000 miles(160k on the clock) and the oil level has got very very low.
Anyone got any idea as to why it wont start?

I think you answered your own question.

Low oil and not changed for 30,000 miles quite likely means broken piston rings, seized or partially seized big ends, and a list of other troubles too lengthy to mention.

    You reap what you sow!!

Reminds me of another forum where op was looking for DIY service advice. He drained the oil out and took out the filter etc and was perished with the cold. He decided to start the car to keep himself warm :D:D:D. Of course he posted on the forum the symptons the car now had..:D

Turns out it just needs a new fuel pump. Priced a fuel pump out of a ford dealers for 280 euro, anyone know where i might get one any cheaper?

Try www.ebay.co.uk. And at least give it an oil & filter change, what you're doing now can best be described as wanton vandalism.
